Stock Air Filter

I took my stock air filter off to check it while the car was running and the car cut off, Is that normal? 95 Maxima SE

did you just remove the filter irself...or the housing...the housing contains the MAF...

something must've gotten knocked loose. I used to run my '96 Auto GXE at the 1/4 mi track without a filter in the airbox and it ran fine.

Normal

Yes. This is normal if you remove the filter and housing. It's also un-advisable if the engine is running.
