I just installed a new Stillen POPcharger, now it growls after 2000 rpm and roars after 3000 rpm... is this normal at all? I realize that it's going to make my 98 Max louder, but this much noise?

any help will be appreciated....

by the way, I am thinking about adding a Cattman y-pipe... any input?

 

Yeah, there should be a growl. Get the Y-pipe. Lots more power.

 

thats at WOT right? if it is, it is totally normal. but under normal driving condition, i can only hear a faint sound of mine then its a whole different story at WOT... i love it!

 

yeah, I agree, at normal driving there is a faint difference in the sound, at WOT you'll turn heads with the roar...I've found my self more often turning heads which ='s more trips to the gas station

 

I drove about 140 miles for about a quarter tank of gas after I put the popcharger in... this is awesome... totally unexpected ( not this much anyway )

Beware, the y-pipe will make the car louder.

 

How much louder?

 

It will be as quiet as stock under part throttle, as long as you keep the stock muffler. Then there will be a loud growl at WOT.

 

intake + normal driving = better gas mileage due to an increase in volumetric efficiency.

exhaust + normal driving = "" "" ""

more power @ WOT.. plus better mileage during normal driving... can't beat that

 

Any air intake filter that is exposed (not housed in an intake air box) is going to be loud under open throttle --

I would venture a guess of about 10-15dB louder under wide throttle when comparing a stock intake to an exposed intake -- to the human ear, that sounds 2X to 3X as loud --

Just helped my room-mate put in an AEM cold air intake on his Integra -- Even though the filter is way down behind the splash guards, it is much louder under wide throttle --
But the long intake runner on that application tends to emphasize more lower frequencies which our ears are not as sensitive too --
