One of my friends has a Camaro V6, its kind of his daily driver and winter car when hes not driving his Vette.

Anyways, were cruising down this street and we pull up to a blinking yellow light. Theres no one around. We stop. He holds his hand out the window counting. 1....2...3....I think Geez whats he counting to. Then he yells Go. He peels out and I bog my launch big time. HE immediately pulls in front about 4 feet in front of me. Through 1st I cant pull any. 2nd I stay with him, still about 1/2 a car length behind. 3rd I start pulling hard. I pull to his back bumper. I check the tach, 5000RPM. I hate taking it past there, with the engine having 141,000+miles. But I stay on it and pull like crazy till 6000. I shift into 4th and I walk him. We come up to the next light and a cop was sitting up there. Whoa...that was close. The street were were racing on had a slight hill in it and by the time we got to the top, we shut it down.

FYI - His Maro has the 3.4 V6 with 4spd auto. I know I should have killed him, but my launch sucked and I wasnt sure when we were going to go...

Two things: First, whenever someone gets an unfair jump on me when racing, I back way off. A half a second jump is a lot to catch up on. Second, I wouldn't worry about pushing your VG. I was doing 110 today and just hit 173,000 miles. These VG's are incredible. Nice kill.

Thanks, I guess I dont feel so bad now.

I had faith in my Max that it could still beat this Camaro despite the huge jump he got on me. It was tough and it took till the end of 3rd/start of 4th to do it, but he was a champ. (My car is a 'he' by the way)

Hey don't the V6 Mustangs have a speed limiter?? I heard it kicks in at around 105-110 mph...There is this guy who lives in my neighborhood who has a V6 Stang and thinks its the **** cuz he has rims and a booming system. He tends to look down on my STOCK looking Maxima. I've been tempted to purge my NOS whenever I drive by and see him waxing his car but my wife says not to act like a kid

P.S.. What do the RS camaro's have??? V6? I saw one yesterday with a body kit/limo tint haul *** past me on the freeway yesterday..

225 hp 3.8 L V6. I have seen those bad boys hold off V8 Mustangs.

I love my VE for just that reason. I love to kill snot nosed jerks in their V6 Camaros and Mustangs. It's kinda funny, I have a friend who just bought a '96 V6 Camaro 4spd auto with less than 50k on the odometer and he's scared to death of my car with 119k on it.

Are you crazy? That's the same 3.8 that's in the GP GTs it's capable of maybe mid 15s unmodded. The GP GT and 3.8 camaros are the ones I always look to race cuz I think it'll be close and a good test of my car. It certainly is no Mustang GT killer.

they aren't THAT slow...

my buddy recently bought a 96 RS camaro with a full body kit and we raced a 5 speed SHO with 4 people in our car and the sho empty except the driver. the SHO had a goody launch and a half a car jump on us because we weren't ready but we caught up really fast and beat the sh*t out of it by like 3 car lengths so don't tell me they're slow...

is the 96 RS a 3.4 or a 3.8 (200 hp)?

btw, if the SHO was a Yamaha V6, the driver either didn't know what he was doing, or thought the race was over. The previous gen SHO is fast! With all those people in your car, the horsepower would be very diminished from the 3.8 V6 200 hp Camaro v. the 220 hp Yahama V6 SHO. I recall that someone mentioned on the list serve that one person can take away up to 15 - 20 hp. If the 1996 had the 3.4 Camaro, then the guy in the SHO was just playing with you.

uh no...

3.8 and the SHO WAS still racing. he had dual exhaust and he chirped at his launch plus when we hit 110 we shut it down and he cam flying by. i'm telling u those cars r still quick not as quite as his previous formula but still... unless u have been in a newer one don't doubt them

A Camaro V6 takes out a SHO? With 4 people in the car?

Was the Camaro a 5spd or an auto? A Camaro 3800 will run like 15.7.

I will believe an empty Camaro and an empty SHO, but not a Camaro with 4 people in it. Are you sure it was a 5speed SHO? What year was it?

yeah, i see stock 5spd sho's running 14.9's at the strip. i run 15.4's consistantly, but i'm not THAT fast. my friend has a 96 v6 camaro anniversary edition, and it has 205 hp. He's got a 5 spd and although he gives my max a good run, i can take him. It's funny to watch a 4dr sedan pulling away from a pretty sporty car.

I personally held off a friend's 205 hp Series II Grand Prix from passing me last weekend. He was quick and stuck with me, but gained little. He is a friend of mine and the race was short, from 10 - 75 and then again from about 30 - 70.

I beg to differ. This particular V6 Camaro was giving a Mustang LX 5.0 fits because he could not shake him.

OK I thought you were talkin about the newer (96+) ones..
An unmodded LX isn't that quick in comparison
IIRC I remember Matt93gxe posting a few kills involving them.
