Help With Rearend Sag
Help With Rearend Sag
Hello. I know there was 100s of suspension post and I am tried to do my homework here.
Me queation is I am putting 19s on my Max. I also have quit a bit of weight in the rear of my car, AKA system. I have the stock GLE suspension and of course the rear sags. I like the ride quality and from what I have read with 19s you really dont want to lower it. So would it help to get SE springs for the rear. Would something like the Teins work. I am not really looking for any better handling, more I just want to make sure nothing rubs and it sits level.
Thanks in advance.
Rick

The SE springs don't lower the car any, just makes the ride more firm. You could get springs such as Eibach which lower the car about an inch, shouldn't be a problem with rubbing, if you do rub, then rolling your fenders will do the trick.
Yes, I know the SE woud not drop it and thats really not what I am looking to do....I dont think, LOL. I am just wanting to get the car to sit level.
I read that the Eibachs are very firm. I am that on my girls mustang she has the Prokit and it reads like a brick with wheel.
I want to keep a close to stock ride, I just want the darn thing to sit level.

your car with stock suspension and 19's will look like an off-roading 4x4. lower it with eibachs, or h&r's, and a quality strut, like tokico illuminas, or kyb agx's. I've learned from friends that you definitely DON'T want to go cheap on suspension.
Not really sure that the SE springs would help much, unless they were fairly new (and by fairly new I mean around 5 years as opposed to 10 - LOL). I'm guessing you've got the original GLE springs, more than 10 years old and they've probably done more than their share of settling. If anything, you might want to lower your front end a small amount, with a pair of H&R's, if an even (or slightly more aggressive) stance is what you want.
I'm not sure if this holds true anymore, but I know that when Sprints first came out for the 4th gen, the rear end was jacked up compared to the front. I almost got them because I had a big system in at the time and with my lowering springs, the rear end sagged. It may be an option.
If your not wanting to change your suspension but just looking for a level ride on the stock, go to your local NAPA and order some coil spring stabilizers. (part #7041279 bk) You'll need a port-a-power, or something similar to install them between the coils. It will level the car out and your suspension will feel the same.
How could the suspension possibly feel the same if you're effectively reducing the travel of the spring?

It may feel the same, but you're basically reducing the travel of the spring. By having blocks/spacers in there that keep coils from compressing, it's going to be different than stock. It probably feels the same but will bottom out quicker.

If you want ride quality keep the GLE suspension. SE springs wont do anything extra to prevent the rear from saging, caused by a system.
If you want ride quality dont get 19's
If you want 19's then you need to lower the car, or else. whats the point of getting 19's?

Your only option is to put the stock SE springs in the rear of your car. That might help with the weight a little bit. The SE rear springs are firmer then all the other models, that can only help you.
Gravity is your other problem and being there is no way to turn that off, your stuck with how it sits.
Of course, cleaning out your trunk might help too.

in stock form the SE has a lower rear by 2mm (over the GXE/GLE) but the rear spring is stiffer so it may raise you a bit. the coil's free legth is accutally 10mm shorter and has thicker wire diameter over the GXE/GLE rear spring.
if you have an auto then you my want to try 5 spd front springs. they should lower the car a few mm. since they were designed for a lighter transmission. they are 10mm shorter in free length and use thinner diameter wire than the auto springs Tom (njmaxseltd) will be tring the front 5 spd springs on his auto soon.
