Gas smell from the tank cover
Gas smell from the tank cover
Ever since I changed my fuel pump to a walbro 255, I have had a gas smell from the tank cover (under the rear seat). Oddly, during the summer the smell was hardly noticeable unless you opened the trunk. Now that the weather is cooling down its starting to smell again and I cant put up with another winter sucking gas fumes (especialy with the cost of gas these days)
I have tried to reseal the cover with every different type of sealant I could think of with no luck. Does anyone have a solution or encountered this problem before?

if you can smell gas, you have a leak. hiding the problem so you can't smell it isn't good. if you didn't replace the rubber hoses when you changed the fuel pump, that is probably the cause. they are old and brittle and have probably developed a crack.
