Power Steering normal or acting up?

As most of you know I'm new to Maximas and I'm not quite used to mine yet. I have been noticing that when I'm getting out the garage I need to turn the steering wheel all the way then reverse a lil and turn some more. I dont like to turn the wheel all the way cuz I heard it messes up your car or something so I try no to do it but when I do on the maxima it squeels and sometimes even when I'm just turning the wheel a bit, its hard and squeels as it were turned fully.

Also is it just my maxima or do all 3rd gens have a crappy turning diameter, I cant even do a damn u-turn on a small street/mid sized street..

What do you guys think is the problem?

most front wheel drive cars have crap turning circles so dont worry about it .It also sounds like your P/S drive belt needs adjusting.

Yes I agree fwd=understeer BUT compared to my accord the maxima sucks with the u turns and stuff of that sort. I got all my drive belts changed...so that should be covered by warranty then right? I got 90 days warranty...

its normal for a loose P/S belt to slip on full turns and make that squealing noise

Sounds like your p/s belt is loose....Take it back to he shop where you had them put on and tell them to check the belts for looseness...

As wheels hit the limit, pump tries still to push further. Pressure rises too high, as the systems are cheaply done... For short time, turning against limits, no problem. Practice and hone u parking style...

Tightening the water pump, steering belt is easy. Has to be done not to cause coolant loss, overheating. HowTo clic below

CarDomain sucks. They have outgrown their capacity, got new Nobel candidates to reprogram all pages - or both. Been like this for days.

Gotta figure out a better website...

Pls tell me!

when you turn the wheels all the way to the stops, it does put some extra strain on the pump and the suspension. the engineeres that designed the stuff know that and the car will survive short time periods of this. everything will break in time, always under maximum stress. if you need to turn your wheels all the way, do it.
