Is it okay to have rpm switch wired but not attached to VI?

My summit rpm switch should be here tomorrow but my MEVI won't be in till next week sometime. I want to get started on the wiring early. Is it okay to wire in the rpm switch without the mevi in. I'm assuming it will be alright, but I want to check and make sure. it seems like it should be alright below the set rpm because it isn't activating the selonoid, but would it still be alirght when you go over the set rpm if the yellow wire isn't attached to the selenoid?

I hope that made sense, its hard to put into words what I'm thinking.

only thing that would be bare is the yellow wire if it runs to the engine bay just to make sure put some electrical tape on the end in case it decides to jump over to the positive terminal lol. In fact i currently have a summit rpm switch in my car hooked up and everything but no solinoid anymore its just chillin activating nothing looking pretty. btw even if not connected it doesnt matter if it activates or not it wont hurt anything.
