how hard of a swap is this

ive been reading on this a lot and i have 2 mechanic friends that know what they are doing....but do you have to know MAXiMA's in general to know how to do this swap or just cars in general? Im sure a 3.5 swap is alot more challenging then just dropping in a honda motor where everything goes into place. thanks guys

It's always good to know your maxima in and out, it should make the install a whole lot easier. Doing the full 3.5 swap requires General Automotive knowlege, old engine out new engine in. If your going to tear the motor down like I had to for the Hybrid swap, you better have experience taking motors apart and knowing the proper procedures putting it back together.

your two mechanic friends shouldn't have any problem with the swap as long as they know the procedure-drilling the cams, using cam spacers, using stuff from the 3.0, etc.

I had little mechanical knowledge before the swap (practical, anyway) and took my time. It's not much longer than a Honda swap, and it's a whole lot cheaper.

Instead of telling him what you want, refer him here, or print out as many important facts as you possibly can..from here

Poor padowan. There is much more. Timing system needs to be swaped to the VQ30, fuel pressure regulator added, rpm switch added, and a few other things. Read some more, all the info is in this forum. Id say you are off to a good start though.

That is not true. Timing System is not necessary. If you are talking about VTC then it is just crazy to attempt swapping to 3.5 ECU. FPR will make the car perform MUCH better, but isn't 100% needed. RPM switch is just $50-$80 bucks so no biggy.

When I said Timing System I ment then Timing Chains and Gears. You know of a way to make the VQ35 ones work with the VQ30 Ecu or was I just not clear?
