HELP -- Carpeting a fiberglass (organic shaped) enclosure

HELP!

I've gone through 3 "sheets" of carpet trying to carpet my fiberglass enclosure. I'm at my wit's end.. and I almost trashed my enclosure from being so pissed off. I finally said EFF YOU and just spray painted it black but it looks like **** as you'd expect. Please tell me the best way to carpet an organic shaped fiberglass enclosure.

Thanks!

Pics of the enclosure are in my signature.

Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking of just applying it in small sections and trying to "patch" it together. I know it will look bad but if I can get those seems more towards the back or bottom of the enclosure, it may turn out alright.

Any thoughts?

Ok, so when you are applying the carpet, what problems are you running into?

Metal Maxima,

Originally I was going to paint it, but the process of prepping was taking too long for my liking, so I decided I'd find some nice color matched carpet and just carpet it, besides it would help to hide a few gaps that would still show even if I sanded and painted it perfectly. So, this leads to my current problems.. actually applying carpet to this odd shaped behemoth. I went through 3 "sheets" of this carpet trying to get it to apply corrrectly without creases, etc; all of this to no avail.

I am just asking for the best, or at least a good method, for applying carpet to odd shaped sub enclosures.. specifically as you see my sub enclosure is rather odd shaped.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Well, I woiuld do this:

Take the sub out, and then wrap in carpet as you did the fleece, applying spray glue as you go. Now, there more than likley will be a few "ugly" spots, but move the carpet around until you can do it in a way where the ugly spots can be hidden. A second set of hands REALLY helps on this step. Once you are happy with the dry test, apply your glue, then cut around the circumference of the ring.

Although I am gonna really strongly advocate painting the enclosure...worth its weight in gold even though it's quite time consuming.

I don't know if you are still working on this, but laying down a layer of 1/8" foam first will hide all the bumps.
