How often do you clean your throttle body?

I cleaned mine 6 months ago and I have not checked it since. It is easy enough to do.

So, how often do you clean your throttle body?

HoldTight.......

I just cleaned mine for the first time the other week, at 80k miles. Didn't notice a difference, though I do expect some marginal improvement when I do it on my VG w/ 210k.

I'd say clean it when you clean the air filter.

There's a section on it motorvate.ca mate - step by steps to help you out.

Going to clean it this weekend - first time for me. 1996 SE with about 140k miles and a 1996 SMX with 110k miles. Hopefully see some benefits.

A smoother idle and more consistent revving will more than likely follow.

Will carb and choke cleaner work or is there some special throttle body cleaner? Stupid question I know.

How are you supposed to know its dirty?

No, windex or dish liquid is a bad idea. you'll never be able to get all of the residue out and it may possibly damage your engine is the intake sucks up water and soap.

when i cleaned my TB i used 3M throttle plate cleaner. i believe you can use carb/choke cleaner too. they don't leave any residue, evaporate quickly and burn up in the cylinders with the fuel-air mixture without adverse effects
