newfound questions about my max

I got stuck in the snow the other day and i noticed that only one of my wheels was turning and the other one was going. If i eased in on the clutch both wheels would spin. Does this mean that i have a limited slip diff??? Also my abs light came on which i had never seen before. I Always thought that i did not have ABS on my car either. anyone know if my assumptions are right???

actually... it's the contrary... if you had limited slip one wheel would not be spinning and the other stopped. Limited slip differential will try to lock the two sides together when one wheel starts to spin faster than the other, which would have helped you get out easier. I can't tell you if your car has ABS you should know this. It might help if you told people what year and trim you have. I am guessing that sense the wheel obviously lost traction and was spinning freely and that you got an ABS light (which is supposed to come on to tell you that ABS sensor has detected a loss of traction) that you have ABS

Go to a non-icy parking lot and stomp on the brakes. If your wheel(s) lock, you do not have ABS. If you feel a sort of pulsing sensation in your pedal and the car comes to a quick stop, you do.

Likewise, in the same parking lot, turn the wheel all the way to the right or left and nail it. If one wheel spins and all you get is a bunch of smoke, then you've got an open diff. If both wheels spin, your car kinda goes straight but takes off quickly you have an LSD.

From your description: open diff, ABS.
