How many cranking amps should the battery have

My dad just bought a new battery for the car and it's rated at 825 cranking amps. I thought that was a bit high since the previous battery was 500 CA.
I was wondering how many cranking amps does the stock battery come with and what would be the minimum cranking amps required to start the engine.

IIRC 650 is the right number.

825 is a lot. I just replace one like that in a 97 Deville. Those things have so many electrical gadgets in them though.

Don't think it would cause any problems, anybody think it would?
