Custom Sidemarker lights

Anybody custom added sidemarker ligths to your max? I want to install some on my 98 SE but i'm a little sketched on how get them on and where to attach wires. Any info on how you did it or a thread on the .org would be great. Thanks alot!

You gotta drill into the front fenders, and tap off of the side portion of the bumper lights. I think that look is played out, this was in back in the mid 90's.

I like the look, and it is a safety thing too, one time a while back I was getting over and someone was getting over at the same time, and if you or the other person isn't paying that much attention you will meet, epsecially if you are looking further down the road. One the same note when I look over sometimes and I see an jetta or something I know they are getting over beside me when I see the blinker. A neccessity, no, more of function for me.

I installed a set last year on my car.

looks nice and has been very helpful in heavy traffic.

1. drill holes in the front fenders (measure carefully so they're even)
2. ground wire can be put under one of the fender screws under the hood
3. splice the power lines to your turn signal lights in the bumper

I have them on one of my Max's, it's very easy to do really. Drill a hole of appropriate size to fit the side marker into the fender, or wherever you are mounting it. I ran the wires up over the fenderwell lining up to the front turn signal, and use wire taps to get power from the turnsignal wires, and thats it really.

I was thinking of ordering lights from JCWhitney that fit either the VW or Audi. Different options of lights(flat/raised, oval/square) so it seemed they would work.

They are all the same, its just a light with 2 wires, very simple. I bought mine from pepboys and I just changed the bulbs inside to led's.

yeah i couldnt find the clears at pepboys. They only seemed to have colored markers (red or orange). What do you think for placement? I was thinking inbetween the handles and the door strips? Any thoughts?

I installed these on one of my previous cars (a first generation Dodge Intrepid and loved it. I put them in line with the side molding and it looked great!). You seem to be doing it in the interest of safety, so I recommend wiring one wire to the parking light + and one to the turn signal +. This way, they will be on with your lights and flash with your turn signals (though the flash will be opposite of your signal when your lights are on -- much like the front side lights of many GM vehicles)

I think the power lines have a color tracer on them and the ground wires are just solid black.

It's been several months, I'll have to check tommorow.

just run a wire formt the side marker to the front blinker bulb harness........that is all yo have to do....it is 2 wires on oth not real confusing. i used one of those things from home depot which you drill a hole, then you use acone shaped tool on a drill to make the whole larger to fit the side marker in it. Make sure you donot do it to high up cause it will look terriable, and make sure they are level

They should have them in with the aisle that has all the neon lights and blue headlight bulbs and that stuff. Same with advance auto parts. Or just find them online somewhere.

Try to find universal lights.

They only need the one hole to sit flush with the fender.

If you can't find them locally, heres a few sites with several.

No you shouldnt, there is about an inch long "stud" if you will, that comes out of the back of the lense, where the bulb sits in. That's what goes into the hole you drill. The rest of the lense is flat, so as long as you are mounting it on a flat location it should be flush just fine once you put it in place.

I would just use taps and then tape them up so water doesn't get in...

I used epoxy on the back of mine, so they are pretty much stuck there. But the ones I have, also have 2 smaller holes to drill into the fender and attach it with screws. The epoxy has worked fine for me, they've been on the car for over 2 years.
