Exhaust Parts

I read the stickies but still have a question, where do the O2 sensors in the OE y-pipe go when you install an aftermarket one, and how do you keep the CEL from coming on? O2 simulators?

Sorry if its an obvious answer but all the y-pipe questions are about "which one is better which one should i get what works better with a 5.0 or 5.5 gen " that kind of thing.

I used a simulator when I installed my headers. some extend them past the main cat.

he said y-pipe i think. i put mine on the O2 sensor hookup closest to the original place. (i think it ended up being on the other pipe but im not sure). i dont think your CEL should go on no matter what side you put it on, unless you didnt put it on...

The aftermarket y-pipe (Cattman, Stillen, Warpspeed, Budget, whatever) should have the corresponding bungs for the O2 sensors. You do not need an O2 sim for a y-pipe install.

Oh so even though you eliminate the pre-cats, you can screw the O2's right back where they were and it doesnt mess up the readings?

On 00-01's it elimates the precats. 02-03 you have to get headers.

damn, now I need to find a place to get a y-pipe. Any good y-pipe should come with the bungs already there for the sensors

Depends on if the car is FED or CALI spec actually. On the FED spec 00s you are removing both precats when you install an aftermarket y-pipe. The CALI spec 00s and 01s (which are all CALI spec) still have one precat between the front manifold and the y-pipe, but you are doing away with the rear precat. On the 02-03s (which are all CALI spec) both precats are between the manifolds and the y-pipe, so you're not eliminating either of em with an aftermarket y-pipe.

I know someone local with a CALI spec 00 who installed a Cattman y-pipe and he doesn't have any CEL or codes.

I still have to disagree with you on that, I swear on my 00' cali spec the front pre cat is in the y-pipe.

I am pissed I forgot my camera for the header install.

Well, and once again, my info is from the following links:

http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB02-051a.pdf

I will also try to contact someone local with a CALI spec 00 to see if I can get pictures for ya.

Damn, your right...

I forgot all about the huge five bolt flange on the B2 manifold. It was never a deal for me because everything came off. I also never really knew that there were different y-pipes for CA and Fed, I think I have only seen a pic of the Fed one that runs up to the manifold so I forgot all about that damn flange.

We also never seperated the B2 precat from the y-pipe when we pulled it so it was one big piece when we tossed it.
