It is true... try to get maxspeeds or H&R for a semi stock ride...

I bought B&G springs. 1.6" front and rear. Ride a bit stiff. If I was to replace them, I'd get H&R for sure. I think Maxspeeds are getting harder to find.

I have Progress springs.

What are you looking to accomplish with a spring upgrade? Ride quality? Looks only? Ride + looks? Handling? Handling + looks? Etc etc....

And you'll have to pick some good struts to match whatever springs you end up getting, so ya might wanna take that into account too.

(do some research on maxspeed sprigns, they are cheap and really nice springs)

i am looking for a decent ride quailty, not to low in the rear, i was thinking about the tein springs the 1.6 front and 1.0 rear, since there is more of a gap in the front.

Just so you know, pretty any lowering spring is gonna give you poorer than stock ride quality. Hope that's something you're willing to deal with. The H-techs are great springs (good compromise between handling and comfort) according to many people here, I have a set myself sitting here waiting for me to find some time to install them.

What struts will you be using?

I am just looking to drop the front as I am fine with the back gap. I dont want to replace the stock struts yet. If I got with H&R or Maxspeed on the factory strut will I still get the drop they list? I dont mind a slightly harsher ride but I would like to keep the ride close to stock but with 18's on it is an absolute must to drop the front a bit. At some point new struts will come. This seems very close to markamxima's quesiton so I hope this doenst come across as whoring!

The drop doesn't change with the struts you use, at least, it shouldn't.

Okay. I always thought that a new strut could contribute to a drop. But just to clarify, if I stick with my stock struts and go with Maxspeed I will still get the roughly 1.4 inch drop in the front?

There would be minimal difference between struts on your overall ride heaight. The spring controls your ride height and the strut will dampen the spring so you wont bounce around. The reason most people get struts is that when you lower the height of your car your OEM struts will have less travel distance. They are made to be centered at a certain point and you are going to lower that point. 1.4" is about the limit your factory strut will take and will for sure shorten the life of it. That is why we get aftermarket struts that can handle the drop. You are not going to wreck anything right away, but start putting aside some money for struts if you lower it.

As for ride quality, I was in the same boat you were. I have a 6 month old and my max is my daily driver. So when I lowered my car I needed to keep as close to factory ride as possible but I still wanted a gain in peformance. I ended up with Vogtland Springs with KYB GR2 struts. Most people here are no too big on the GR2s but paired with my Vogtlands, I couldnt be happier with my setup. My little boys brains are not bouncing around in his head, dropped about 1.6" all around and I got a very good increase handleing. I only paid $472 to my door for everyhting too.

Thanks bigfatty! Exactly what I was looking for. I have 2 little girls and dont want them being woken up by every frost heave up here. I will probably just start with maxspeed on stock with the goal to go struts plus springs (be them maxspeed or whatnot). Now to find a used set...

Good explanation for the most part, but I was under the impression that OEM struts don't have "less travel distance" necessarily, they just have lower damping rates than aftermarket, so it requires less effort to compress the strut than a strut with higher damping rates.

And speaking of kids... I have a baby boy on the way and I'm keeping my struts/springs and exhaust the way they are because I want him to grow up accustomed to a harsh ride and loud exhaust....

Yeah you are right, not really less travel distance, but rather the are designed for a the specific height of an OEM spring. So if you lower the car you are taking the strut out of the optimized travel area. The strut will always be compressed more than it would be with a OEM spring, which would mean rougher ride and shorter life.

As for your boy, congrats, and I can see him when he gets older now. He is that 16 year old kid with a 82 camaro RS, with no exhaust and listening to Lynard Skynard. I LOVE IT!!! But I cant say anything, mine is going to look like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers.

On a side note, I think my keyboard is broken, words are showing up misspelled in my posts.
