Hey guys, does anyone know what type of bulbs we have behind the 02-03 ( SE) gauge cluster ( Gas, Temp, Tach & Speedo) and how many? I'd like to change the color if possible....... thanks

(1) Color is difficult to change.
(2) No aftermarket bulbs available to my knowledge.
(3) Custom work to change bulbs to 194
(4) Check my homepage

Wow nice write up but scary stuff! do you happen to know what the factory bulb # was or do you have a pic? Wondering if any of these will work?

T5 wide angle 5mm base

Can replace any stock 74 bulb in your car.

74 Cross Reference: 17 18 37 70 73 79 85 86 2721

Size: T5 Wedge Base, 20mm 3/4" (20mm) high x 3/8" (5mm) diameter

NOTICE THE MOUNT IN THIS PIC ABOVE LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE THE ONES IN OUR GAUGE CLUSTERS.... NO?

Also replace part # 286?

Those bulbs are spotty.

Any non-Polarg 194 bulb will yeild poor results.

But we're not talking 194's here I'm talking about factory replacements

reeeeally! The one's in the pics above are not 194's I'm trying to find out if these will fit in the factory sockets behind the gauge cluster. 194's need to be modifed as in Metal Maxima's domain, which I'm not prepared to do at this time.

So you don't know if they fit? Maybe someone will jump in with a definite yes or no, but thanks anyway, if I was to go the 194 route I'd certainly refer to your writeup. and it's not the soldering etc of the 194's that's stopping me it's the clearing of the blue stuff off the back of the gauges, and the biggie: tampering with the odometer and needles that freaks me a little. Also I've got an 02 so I don't know if the blue stuff on the back is different or not as yet. I'll be going in there soon to install my chrome gauge rings and thought about blasting in these replacement bulbs at the same time. They are inverted and wide angle which makes a huge difference. I have a ton of 194 Led's as I tried different variations in my old 4th gen gauge cluster. There's a few comparison pics in my domain. Bought my 5th gen before I had a chance to try the inverted 194's in my 4th gen.

I switched mine to red a while back, but there were no bulbs bright enough to be useful in any sort of ambient light (as in it hadda be pitch black out to really see them). The size is t-18 IIRC, but make sure to get the brightest LEDs you can find

yeah the blue stuff is definitely different on the 5.5 gen gauges...it's not just a coat of blue, it is like that all the way through, so you can't rub it off...it looks to me like the stock bulbs are a bit different than the 74 ones, but you can try them...they're cheap, aren't they??

here's what the back of our gauges look like:

and this is what our gauges could look like if we were able to supply enough light to them:

Thanks for the pic, well I've been searching all day and T18's are really hard to find in LED, one crossreference said = to 3157 but that can't be correct! Do you happen to remember how many bulbs are back there? Just for the gauge clusters that is, not he idiot lights etc. SPeaking of those I wonder why my door open idiot light shows up at night even though it's not lighted up?
