Sunroof not opening (2002)

Ok guys I have a 2002 max and for some reason my sunroof will not open. On the 5.5 gens the switches are a little different than the 5th gens, and the one that is malfunctioning is the one the slides back (closest to the driver). I can open it using the vent button on the right however that opens 2-3 inches everytime you press it so it is a P.I.T.A. also not what that button was designed to do. I'm hoping it's just the switch and not a motor but I would like to see if anyone else has had this problem. I'm not sure if there are different motors that operate each switch ( I guess it is possible) but I can open it with the vent switch like I said further up so it is getting power. Any help would be appreciated

Did you disconnect the battery recently?

Check your owners manual. The fix is in there.

That's it then.... the reset procedure is on page 2-29 or something. All you do is hold the tilt close button down for a bit.

I have a similar problem with my 2000. The tilt works but the slide goes like an inch then I have to push the button again. It takes pushing the button like 7 times before the sunroof is open. I is a POS. I tried resetting mine but it did not work. I also tried a new switch, but still no dice. so i uess I will have to live with it for a while before I figure out what to do.

If you want to perform the sunroof reset here it is:

• If the sunroof is open, press the tilting switch repeatedly toward tilt "Down" to fully close the sunroof.

• After the sunroof has closed all the way, keep pressing the tilting switch towards tilt "Down" for more then three seconds.

Thats exactly as it reads from a sunroof TSB. See if that fixes your problem.

I don't have a sunroof, but I think i've heard of this problem before, and the fix should be in the book.

Yep works fine now. I feel like such a n00b but that sure isn't the first thing you would think to do when your sunroof doesn't open.
