"custom" intake

I might go to home depot, get some high quality piping parts and construct my own CAI mocking the injen which places the filter behind the fender area, just a question about the hoses though that attach to the stock breather box, theres three (don't know names) the large one about 3/4in on top, below that is about a 1/2in one, and finally a small one below that which is about 1/4in which connects to a T fitting and then routes off, do all these need to connect somehow to the new intake?

P.S. anyone know what diameter that injen uses for the CAI on the 2k maxima? (same one described above) like 2.75 or 3 or 2.5 in

the injen is crap and even a cheap homemade one would be crap.
and no the injen does not place the filter "behind the fender". its between the radiator and the engine where the air is "cold"

you think a short ram intake does better?
since you actually have one, whats your input on the berk vs. stock

(not supposed to sound like i have attitude, really just asking)

intakes, for the most part, are not considered power mods on our cars...the GAB is dyno proven to give an extra 8whp, and correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont think there was any loss of low end like there is with a regular intake....are you wanting to get it for the look, the sound, or the power? if it's for the sound and power, definitely do the GAB...it's worth it and you can convert back to stock in the time it takes you to pop your hood...a sound clip is in the exhaust sticky at the top of the 5th gen forums...

but if you ARE wanting it for looks, i've heard that the berk is supposedly the 'best' ...

I was actually just looking into this, I have a pop charger, and need a place to install my nitrous jet, so I was going to use one of those 6" tubes from pepboys. to go between the MAF and Throttle body, and just get rid of the Resonator box.
my nitrous thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=459113
I know the one BIG tube connecting into the box, can be replaced with a small air filter that you can get at pep boys, but the 1/2" one?? and the 1/4" one that hooks up to the T fitting then the VIAS box I have no idea either???
They may just be a clean air source for what they are connecting to (like the big one) or they may be some sort of vacuum tube???
