Silvbania Silverstars...Mod req'd??

I can't do a forum search on this topic yet due to my newbieness.

Are 9004 Sylvania Silverstars direct OEM replacements w/o modding? I do not know how hot they run, so figured I'd ask. I'm not looking for anything crazy....just something a little better. Any help is appreciated.

*PS: I know I can't spell on the title...long day at work.

Anything 9004 is a direct replacement for our cars. Most people will say they aint as good exspecially in the rain but I havent found a negative thing about them except some people say they dont last as long but mine have lasted over a year and I say they are great

i had silver stars. compared with silvania xtravision, they both put out exactly same about of light (or brightness). Only difference is silverstar is 'whiter' light but its 'not brighter' than the regular silvania xtravisions. Also the silver star has alot shorter lifespan than xtravision and cost more too.

Well what are you looking for? If you want a cool looking light get them or any other tinted bulbs, you just won't get good light output. If you are looking for good light output, get HID's or stay with stock bulbs.

If you are not happy with the stock light output, and you don't wanna dish out for HID, do the 9004 to 9007 conversion. And use the Sylvania Xtravision 9007 with it. Search thru the stickies for the how-tos.

yup. plug 'n play. They are defintely better than stock. They do burn out faster though. I am extra careful not to touuch them at all during install, and I seem to have to replace a bulb at least 3 times a year.

I agree with you. Light output of the Silverstars suck, especially in the rain. I went to my local Walmart and purchased a pair of Sylvania Xtravisions, these bulbs are awesome on wet roads and dry. Light output is excellent in ALL conditions, they cost a hell of a lot less and last a hell of a lot longer. I'm going on 2yrs now with my Xtravisions.

I agree with Dr-Max seeing as i did the 9007 conversion and used silverstars with that. Excellent crisp, white light, and it really shows things on the road. After the conversion and a bit of aiming, the difference is very noticable. It is the best way to go IMO.

I have the Nokya StageII arctic white + harness upgrade. Going on 2 years on the bulb, no melted light socket nor wires. However, the best way to go is HID, you get what you pay for. I'm going HID soon.

i meant that for a relatively cheap upgrade, it is the best way to go. I know that HIDs reign supreme for light, but i was talking about inexpensive upgrades.

silverstars in my bmw burned out after less than a year each side a few month apart. they do not qualify as white IMO they clearly have yellow in them, but thats probably because the color temp is much lower than HID just save ur money for that

Do you disagree that there are too many duplicate posts here?

By the way I have had the Silverstars in my Max for over 2 years now.

Now, while we are talking xtravisions...

What was good about the silverstars was I could get the same bulb line for the fogs, but what do you guys w/ xtravisions have in ur fogs? I can't do HID right now, but maybe down the road.

I disagree with the "stupid way to run a site." Especially you being a member since 2003, youve obviously gained somethin from bein here. Why not give back?

If more people donated we wouldnt have to deal with repeated posts/threads.

Besides, the people who actually want to support the site and be a real member get the privelage to search, makin the information easier to obtain.

i agree about the giving back thing. i'm about to donate myself..however we already pay for our internet, the gas in our cars and the mods we put on...is it really necessary to rape us futher? This is a great resource and i'm sure if it wasnt hosted here it would be hosted somewhere else. the org racks in a lot from advertizing per month...and i'm sure they cover their bandwidth costs especially since there is no image or attachment uploading allowed. search's are a vital necessity and sometimes i resort to google's search site function to find things on here...somethign alot of people should learn hwo to do. but insite search's will always beat google for specific content and relivence. if a simple search puts that much load on the server, its time to get a different platform.

whatever, just my 2c.

No, They don't need a mod. However, they don't last. I wouldn't waste my money.

I don't mean to add fuel to the fire but I know of many other forums who include a free search feature to non-subscribing members (including other maxima forums). One thing that many other sites do, to still generate some revenues to stay operational, is that they compile all the how-to's together, segregate them by categories and make it a subscriber-only area in the forum. Non-subscribers are free to search the entire forum but if the search finds information that happens to be in the subscriber-only area, they get a friendly message that they need to subscribe to enter that area. IMO, this forum is backwards but no pun intended to all who supports this forum 100%, I do to, I just haven't subscribed and that's the choice I have made. Nonetheless, I will not deny that I have benefited from this service greatly and I am not insinuating that there are better sites out there. There's just other places where you can obtain the same info from but not all. As for myself, I deal with not having the search feature and weed thru the forums to get info. It's tedious but that's what I get for being a cheap-skate sometimes. Still, I don't cry and whine like these other forum-freeloaders. You get what you pay or don't pay for.

It`s very simple, no search feature for every member=many, many duplicate posts.

Well yeah because people are lazy and would rather have the answers spoon fed to them instead of reading a few pages back in the forums.

They could definitly eliminate some questions that have been answered over and over. I weed through threads and see the same questions over and over, usually your questions were already answered.

I had PIAAs, I liked them. They were alright in the rain. Any driving light won't really be good in the rain unless they are yellow. Even HIDs aren't the greatest in the rain, better, but not great. I will never go back to halogen though.
