Reasons why not to go big (wheel)

Right now I am have a stock wheel setup with a lower profile tire (215). I am really wanting a more agressive look through larger tires. I am looking into 18 x 8 but all the rims I am interested only come in size 18 or 19 x 7.5. I am worried about the width. And the disparity on the speedo when going that big. Is it going to be like my speedo says 10 and I really going 15?

And what if I want to upgrade to a big brak system. Do I need a larger offset or smaller offset?

I have been reading in the tire and wheels section but have found that their are too many posts from 5th gen guys. I need 4th gen answers and possibly pictures.

One more thing. Besides tire rack where can I see a good assortment of black rims?

No, with smaller tires you go slower than your speedometer says.

for performance I'd reccommend no bigger than 17" rim. Any bigger and the unsprung weight increases and ride is comprimised (chance for damage increases)

If youre goin strictly for looks and not too worried about performance/comfort then I'd reccomend no bigger than 18" . Any bigger than that and the rim size is no longer proportional to the car and it looks
As far as tire width I wouldnt go any larger than 245 on either size rim.

For info on the offsets:

BBK's need at least a 17" rim. You may fit some 16" dependin on wheel design

I too have been thinking of reasons why not to go big.
First, bigger wheels = bangs more over bumps. And my city is choked with horrible speed-bumps.
Second, the horrendous cost of buying 4 new wheels and tyres and balancing. The stock honeycombs look well enough to me.
What I need is the same height but to reduce the nasty-looking gap between wheel and wheel arch, I propose using spats instead. Something that no one here seems to do. I had to flare and extend the arches on most of my UK cars because the law there requires that no part of the wheel or tyre projects beyond the bodywork. I don't see why the same can't be done on the Max.

My GF runs 18/8.5 on her Max. No issues, other than weight, which affects acceleration. It looks 100x better than the stock wheels, the only problem is that the car doesn't sit low enough on Tein H-Techs.

Edit: The speedo won't be that far off. Usually 2-3mph at the MOST. It all depends on tire size. Most people fail to realize that tire size also changes as your tires wear. When is your speedo accurate?

Here's my 19's I think they look nice on my ride. 235/19/35 and the speedo isn't affected at this size only by very minut amounts. There are many Tire Calculators you can find that will show you how Wheel/Tire height will affect your speedo. Don't be shy to use

as long as ur tire size compensates for bigger wheels it wont throw off ur speedo...IMO 17s are the best.....bigger than stock but enough sidewall for poopy roads..if i was in FL...or CA i would go 18s
