whats the first sign a bose system diein???

i installed a aftermarket stereo in my friends 93 max when i was done installing it i heard a static noise when it was playing a cd but since i have never heard a working bose system in a 3rd gen so i wasn't sure if it was the aftermarket stereo or the amps would it be the amps that cant handle the aftermarket stereo???

Bose speakers and the amps are 1ohm,most aftermarket stereos are 4-8 ohm...I have had good luck with pioneer hu's not messing up the bose speaker/amps....Even though they are4-8 ohm...

if you hear static it's normally the amp failing

The stock bose system is not worth trying to fix. Rip out the whole bose system- amps, wires, speakers & source unit. Install some top quality after market gear and re wire it all! Thats the best way to go.

stock = crap

I need help with my BOSE!!!!

I'm speakers are all crackling and I get high pearcing sounds. I know the recommendation is to replace everything. Is there a cheap way of doing this. I have 4 Bose speakers with NO amps. Can I use them without rewiring everything and just purchase an aftermarket cd player? Any info will help.

Overall the way you can ell the STOCK BOSE system is dying, well it's the word BOSE on a 90 something car. Great for the time but far from 00+ tech. Rip it out and get with the century.

the bose system isn't bad when it's all working, unfortunately that's rarely the case.
ANYWAYS the crackling is probably the amps failing.
you can either:
a. Resolder the affected amps
b. buy replacement amps
c. replace everything since the stock bose H/U can't drive regular speakers

I'm opting for "c" since I just got 4 infiniti reference speakers and a JVC H/U (KD-G110) I may use my alpine H/U (CDE-7827)

My Bose works fine. I have had all 4 amps rebuilt. (A relatively cheap fix, write-ups are available).

The last time I had an issue (rebuilding the final amp) was in 2000. They have worked flawlessly since with 3 different head units:

3rd Gen BOSE
4th Gen BOSE
The aftermarket Head Unit listed in my sig

Blackandwhite: Where can we find the write-up on the amp rebuild? I like the Boso system when it works.

I read somewhere that all the capacitors on the amp circuit board need to be replaced, but I am interested in seeing some details before I attempt anything.

Thanks man.

What does it take to get put a whole new system in? Do I have to re-wire the entire car? Or can I just get replacement speakers and stereo with the right adapters? I don't have a ton of $$$, but my radio's dyin' and I need to get it fixed. Thanks

you want the easy way?
what I did / am doing
1. took out stock front housings
2. traced housing onto a piece of mdf (1/4 or 3/8 I forget which I still have some left)
3. marked mounting holes on MDF from stock housings
4. (didn't do but should have) Mark speaker mounting as low as possible and (I did the next part) cut hole in center for speaker

comes out like this:

for ease of hookup I cut the harness that goes from the car to the amp (4 wire connector) and used the purple and yellow wires to run to the speakers (front and rear connectors)

on the rear I did the same with the harness and the speakers comeout with a 1/4" socket and 4 nuts.
MOST 6x9s will bolt straight in.

for the HU, just get a regular nissan wiring harness adapter for like $10 and the antenna adappter also like $10 and swap in the HU you want.

I'll probably be selling my already wired Alpine shortly if you're interested.

I get some static too at low volume when playing CDs with my aftermarket unit and BOSE speakers.

However, it does not happen when I play music through the USB connection, or when I listen to the radio.

MAybe it has something to do with feedback from the laser....not really sure

I have stock Bose speakers running off a cheap Kenwood headunit with the amps bypassed. I wired both left speakers in series to double the resistance, and have that running off the LF channel. Ditto for the right. Sounds fine and H avnt had any problems in over a year of running it like that.

If you hear static and a light squealling noise then they are pretty much dying.

My bose headunit only works sometimes. Could this be a relay problem?

i just threw out mine because the display wasn't on half the time.
well that and I picked up the eclipse with it's H/U and speakers so it all got swapped in free audio upgrade

I pitched the bose from my first max because of a failed speaker amp or 2 or 3
never did put front speakers in that one

I do have the front bose speaker pod assemblies from this one still. though they need connectors now

Maybe somebody can help me with my bose system too - I'm guessing from reading this post that mine is dead as well.

About 6 months ago the display went out, and never came back on - I learned to live without a display, but about 3 months ago the sound starting going in/out randomly. At first it seemed like it would cut out (CD or radio) whenever I put the brake on, but now it just does it all the time. It will be playing, then either just cut out totally, or make crackling/static noises and then cut out.

Also, the CD player hasn't played any CDs in about 3 weeks - just spits them back out. For the past 3-4 days I've gotten no sound at all.

Time to replace everything? I really know nothing about stereos or speakers, so I'm guessing I'll have to take it somewhere for them to rip everything out and put all new stuff in. Reccomendations?

*edit* My car is a 93 GXE

replace it.
but do it yourself.
if you know how to use a screw driver, wrench, knife and tape you can swap it all easily.

that's pretty much what I did.
Got a stereo, adapter harness and antenna adapter.
the rear bose speakers are 6x9s
the front bose I made some adapters out of mdf, but people have modified the stock bose housing to fit 6.5s
on the bose speaker connector there are 4 wires 2 for power and 2 for the speaker.
on mine it was purple and yellow for the speaker.

4" with a 3 bolt mounting
NOTHING bolts in.
another option is to get non-bose pods which hold a 4x6 speaker

actually, you can cut up the stock front Bose housing to fit a 6.5" speaker in there. MrGone has a pic of that somewhere. It's kind of ghetto, but it works. It's not like you can see it, anyway.

You can use the stock wiring, but you have to bypass the amps and know the right wires to use. I have my rear amps bypassed and my HU power is running my 6x9s in the back for rear fill (I have an amp running my front speakers).

i have a set of speaker pods that i cut myself to hold 6 1/2" pioneer speakers.... it worked wonders for me!!!! i am not using them anymore, so if you want them, you will need NO modification whatsoever if you get a 6 1/2 inch speaker..PM me if you are interested!
