SC Install help. Using Ptatoheds Write Up! Almost done, need help/advice

I was out in Long Island this weekend helping a friend install his SC. We came across a problem however. The blower was mounted, everything is in there good, we are up to the part where you have to slip the SC idler pulley onto the plate. That bolt barely fits in there between the body of the car and the plate. How the hell do we slip the bolt up there with the pulley on it? I asked a friend who installed his and he said he had the bolt cut down 1/4" to fit. It said nothing about a shorter bolt in ANY intall manuals . We doing something wrong?

I ended up cutting the bolt, too.

But one thing you can do is install the bracket with the pulley and bolt already in place but loose. Then when it is time to install that last allen head screw behind the pulley, back out the pulley bolt until there is enough room to install the allen head screw. After you get the screw in nice and tight, tighten the pulley bolt. It is difficult, but doable this way. Just have patience and take your time.

Thanks Stephen. I don't think we will be taking the plate out again. It was a ***** and I feel like we are goin to break another standoff bolt. Kit was used and we barely tightened it and it broke. So we are dealing with just one standoff bolt right now. As for the pulley bolt, you wouldn't happen to remember how much you cut it, did you? Looks like it's an inch and needs to be cut down to either 1/2" or 3/4". I guess we will see. Thanks for the tips though. By the way, that allenhead bolt goes through the plate, and tensioner bracket and the alternator? I forgot since it isn't right there in my face anymore.

Weird.. On my car, it made it no problem. Probably a good 1/4 inch clearance between the head of the bolt and the body of the car. I put the bolt through the idler pulley, and weasled it up in there. On Josh's car, it just made it. The head of the bolt rubbed the body of the car as we put it in place. It took more patience, but we got it.

IIRC, the bolt threads in quit a bit, so cutting a 1/4 inch off shouldn't cause any problems. And for what it's worth, make sure you have a nut on the bolt when you cut the tip off, so the nut will "correct" any slightly damaged threads on the end of the bolt when you take it off.

We're talking about a v2 bracket correct? You need tiny hands man.
