Probably gonna be criticized as a newb for asking this but, does a MT have a filter on the bottum of the tranny case like an auto?

No. You have a drain plug and a fill plug that's it.
Find out what kind of fluid you need. Drain your fluid out, then refill it
If your fill plug is in a spot that is hard to fill without some kind of funnel, just go to a lube shop on a day when there's no business and throw the manager $5-$10 and bring your own fluid. Wil save the pain of having to take it somewhere to get it drained and cleaning up a potentially large mess trying to get to the fill hole.

What he said EXCEPT:

Those funnel/tube thingies are only $5 or $10, so buy one and keep it if you can't find anyone with one.

As for me, I run mobil 1 synthetic ATF fluid. I don't wait for it to go bad. About every 30k miles, I drain 4 quarts and add 4 quarts. It's simple.
