dealer told me about a year ago that it was just a inventory number change, still the same filter(they claim).

They told me it was just a name change too. I think someone cut one up though and it was cheapened inside.

i'm a toyota tech and here's the difference i've discovered.
the a2 filter is made in japan and the f2 is made in thailand. big difference in quality just by looking inside the filter. never bothered to cut one open though.

Really? The A2 filters sold in Canada were made in Japan?

I have been using those filters for the last 4 years as I have a Camry that uses them. The A2 filters were made in USA. The F2 filters are made in Thailand.

Regardless of where they're made, they work better then anything I have tried before. The last thing thats standing between me and switching to them permanently is a Mobil 1 filter I threw on last oil change. So far no difference yet with no clack, but around 1000 miles is where each one shows it's true color. I've used a V8 Toyota filter (D3), and I didn't get a peep even after 3000 miles. The F2 gave me mild clacking around 2500.

i only see the a2 filters on (corolla, matrix, echo, yaris) cars that come in for their first service. they're fitted with the a2 out of the factory and get the f2 for the rest of their lives. we don't even stock a2 filters.

Info. about using alternate size oil filters

I came across an forum where a guy said it may be a good idea to use a larger/longer oil filter for better performance in removing particles from the engine and longer use of a filter. Would there be a difference between a 90915-YZZF2 (short) versus using a 90915-YZZF1 (longer) filter, except for maybe using more oil? I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla, nothing special, and am interested in if this is true. If even half of it is true, it would save me some money. I wouldn't think this would affect my oil pressure and having more oil to work with ....would make sense to me as to extend the service interval.

what he said, but ive noticed if we buy the filters in bulk ( pallets quanities) sometimes we get different part numbers, it determines who makes the filters for us.

the wix filter #51361 is larger than the f1/2/D3,im old school i prefer a larger filter if possible.

well im gonna try the D3 since I get it a cost! ;-) woo hoo!
