going from 2.25 to 2.5 exhaust more noise?

Would just going from 2.25 cat-back piping to a 2.5 piping make your exhaust note a little more louder? Assuming that you keep the same stock muffler and get the similar size resonator as well. Techinally your allowing more air to flow thru so i think its possible to make more noise as well but i could be wrong.

Reason why i'm asking this is because i was rear-ended in the summer time and from the accident my muffler tip was pushed downwards about an extra 1.5 inches and it also LOOKS like its rusted behind the muffler as well. I haven't gotten a good chance to look at it but the insurance company gave me crap and saying it was due to rust and gave me $12 for a tip. But aside from the physical damages it makes a low low grumble now, a lot lower then the anything in the stickies of the exhaust sounds thread. But i wanted to attempt to do something about it. I think i'm just going to a small exhaust shop and get a quote for a complete cat-back instead and ask for 2.5 piping with a large resonator and for a quiet muffler. Maybe i'll be able to get 1hp from all of this but i was hoping to get rid of the loudness of my car.

So would getting 2.5 piping be asking to make my exhaust note louder?

It won't make a difference if you're keeping the stock muffler. If you already had an aftermarket muffler and went from smaller to larger piping, yes, it might make a difference.

I'm keeping the stock muffler i just used that as an example.

When my car got hit, i'm sure w/e part of the rust on the muffler broke off from impact and thats whats causing my low low grumble. I don't like it at all, but since i'm going to chance out aleast the muffler i figure i might as well get the b-pipe work done as well. Because i'm not sure where the problem exactly is. I have the funds to pay for a muffler and a custom b-pipe to be installed so i might as well do it now.

Now i thinking of going with w/e the shop carries for mufflers, I'm going to ask them to make it as quiet as possible, if its possible maybe get a super big resonator. Thats opinion one. My 2nd opinion is to go with a dynomax super turbo muffler welded on the customer b-pipe with a super large resonator as well.

All that will be clearified if once i talk to the muffler guys. If they can promise to get it stock sounding with my dynomax and the 2.5 piping i'll get that. If they can't and can promise it with their muffler then i'll be doing that. If not then i'll have to reconsider.

reason why i'm doing it because i drive 6 hours every other weekend from detroit to chicago and i cant stand it too much, plus i think i'm loosing a little power.

bump, maybe someone has done this.

I haven't been able to locate a decent stock muffler on F?S sections. But just in case i do, would it weld on nicely to 2.5 in piping?

Also, does anyone know the diffences between exhausts for each model year. I have a 98 GLE and i found a 97 SE. i'm sure model trim doesn't matter but the years might differ in style. Something about rear O2 sensor.
