I would like to know how to rewire the clock so that I can make it stay bright with the lights on using the dim switch like the radio and climate control.... 98 Maxima SE... And if anyone knows how to wire up the main lights so that if I leave it on to the on pasition and I turn off the car they also turn off. If anyone knows this I would love some detailed info including wire color. Thanks alot guys!!!

The digital clock is designed to go dim when the lights are on. It is not controlled by the dashboard light dimmer. If you want the clock display to remain at high intensity when the lights are on...

1) Remove the clock. This may be done with a small flat-blade screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver blade between the lower right hand corner of the plastic dashboard clock panel and the adjacent softer dash board. Slowly pry the panel up. Continue this at all four corners of the contoured panel until the metal snaps which anchor the panel are loose. Remove the panel by pulling outward and downward.

2) Note that the clock's electrical connector has four wires. Cut the wire which is red with a blue tracer. Insulate the cut ends with a bit of electrician's tape.

3) Install the clock panel. It just snaps into place.

Thanks I did it and it worked. I wish there was a way to connect it to the dimer switch...

I predict this will not work. I have been wrong before. Let us know what results you get.

OK, finished. I've got auto climate in my car so I grabbed the wire there. It's a red wire with a yellow tracer located in the connector on the pass side of the A/C control head. Run a wire from there to the red/blue wire you cut at clock. The clock dimms at a different rate than the radio , but it works. I always keep my acc. bright, but it's nice to have the option. Good luck!

Digging up an old post alert

So if I do this the clock will dim with the dimmer wheel? If I turn the wheel all the way to the right (radio to full bright) would the clock go to full bright also? I don't have auto climate control, is the radio dimmer wire the same color?

I like to run my parking lights and fogs during the day and can't see the clock, but I do not want my clock bright all the time. I was thinking of trying to rig up the clock dimmer wire to the headlights somehow or simply add a switch, but this would be much better.

So basically... cut the red/blue wire and cover the cut ends up w/ electrical tape?? Sorry... just makin sure that there are no splicing or anything else required.

Also, do u guys have any idea why they would design the clock to dim?? Is it some sort of indicator or reminder that ure lights are on during the day?? thanks

Eventually that will result in some burnt out bulbs. Dont ever do this with your headlights. Specially if you have aftermarket head lights like PIAA. My sister learned the hard way. She liked her headlights on in the day and one of them finally burned out. SO replacing one bulb will make the newer bulb look brighter, meaning you must replace both bulbs. And them PIAA Bulbs arent cheap.

Just my 2 cents!

If you want the clock to be bright all the time all you have to do is cut the wire and tape the ends. At night I think the clock would be annoying at full brightness all the time, that is why I am looking for some way to control it.
