Where to find ARP rod bolts for VQ35???

I know that SR20DEN posted up last year sometime about this but I spent about 2 hours searching for these online and this is all I found:

http://www.nipponpower.com/product.phtml?p=606

I don't see anywhere else that has them for the VQ35. Seems like last year SR and Tilley and a few others paid $125 plus shipping on ebay but now this store is the only place I can find them and they are $176 plus shipping. Does anyone else have a source to where to get these for a decent price?

Do you have a link you can forward me? I've registered over there like 2 months ago but for some reason my account has not been activated. Thanks for your help Chris. In addition, how hard is it to install these? I know SR said that the motor doesn't even have to be removed.

i got them from the private classifieds.

It is really easy. Just have to remove upper and lower oil pans. Remove the old and slap on the new. Make sure you tighten then loosen then re-tighten about 3 times to allow for the bolts to stretch.

Can these be installed by just removing the 2 oil pans?

Searched all over ebay... all they have is head studs for the VQ35. This is frustrating. The only place I found online with this is the link in the first post and I'm really not trying to pay $175 plus shipping when I know someone else has them cheaper. I think I need to place a call to Shareef at Forged Internals even though its not on there website. I'm sure they have it.

Even though its not on their web site; I know Mossy performance have them in stock; 1-866-556-6779, Ask for Greg Vogel(Parts dept.manager) so he can give you a discount; I think he can match the 125+ shipping. Try them out, you won't be disappointed.

sorry noob question here but whats the point of stronger rod bolts if the rods are still the cast pieces from the factory?

I could see needing stronger bolts if you were pushing lots of power and had forged rods...but otherwise whats the point?

The rods are forged... not cast.. The rod bolts are "supposedly" the weak point in the engine.. but, after looking at them, I wouldn't trust them much over 400whp, with OR without ARP rod bolts.

This is all I could find on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rod-B...QQcmdZViewItem

I guess I'll just fork out the money. No one else has them.

might as well. the most you would save would be like 20-30 dollars anyways.

IMO my350z is the best place to get stuff. I got those rod bolt + my nismo cams for $800 shipped. Those guys have mucho dinero so they don't care about getting full price for stuff when they sell

wait vq35s come with forged rods from the factory??? And rods are by far our big weakspot I know... So your saying all the guys who destroyed their rods on their turbo 350zs on stock bottom ends were because of rod bolt failures?

No, it was lack of tuning. The stock map is way too much ignition timing for a turbo car after 5000rpm. You can blow any engine with bad tuning.

Yes, you won't find a single nissan engine in the past 15 years that didn't have forged rods from the factory.

Cool so why did the person above say they would only trust them to no more than 400bhp even with the rod bolts?? I've never heard of any forged rods that weak.

Its a little hard for me to believe because rods are supposedly the weakspot in our engines...

And here's a good answer.

just because the rods are forged doesn't mean they will take anything you throw at them.

nissan did a LOt of work to lighten the rotating (and non-moving) weight of the VQ, including slimming down the thickness on the rods and going to a forged design.. you can get the same strength in a forged rod with much less material than in a cast one.... so just because they're forged doesn't mean they're designed to withstand 800hp.

Many of the VQ35 rod failures can be chaulked up to very poor tuning.. I think that the stock rods, with ARP bolts could hold 450-500whp without much fuss, with a proper tune. Trying to run stock timing maps at that power level, will definately result in detonation. IMO, this is what's killing connecting rods.. not power.. Rod bolts shouldn't be an issue until you rev the engine much over 7K. horsepower isn't going to break rod bolts... rpm will though..

Good to know. Not sure if I am going to boost but if I do it will only be to 400 whp. That would put a smile on my face.

Still wish I could have put the valve springs in but for that kind of labor and seeing that I should be safe at about 7200 rpms, I will live.
