dont know if I need a starter

I am having trouble with my 2000 i30 t. I thought it was my starter but in taking it into sears auto, they said it wasn't the starter.

The guy said I am having problems and the engine is what he called hot starting.

anyways, anyone know how to be able to tell if its a starter? also, the infiniti dealer is always backed up, so I wanted to take it somewhere else, thats cheaper and can figure out whats wrong.

anyone know anywhere I can take it?

Never heard of "hot starting" before. If you hear your starter working when you try to start the car then you know its working. If you hear nothing but a click, it could be the starter or the battery. If you hear nothing at all, then its the ignition switch. If you can hear the starter but it sounds slow and bogged down, it could be the starter or the battery.

If you are still on your stock battery I would replace it anyways and go from there.

Hope this helps.

Hahaha, yeah Im still on my first battery. Probably get a Yellow top this summer. I was pushing it this winter when it got really cold. Never let me down though.

Anyway, do you get any wierd sounds upon startup? Could you describe the problem you are having a little better?
