I now have over 2 gallons of Royal Purple racing 21 running thru the motor!
I decided to try something totally new and it works great!
I had the guys at Canton racing http://www.accusump.com sell me a 3 qt. Accusump (#24-006) with no valves or internals, just the aluminum tube and 1/2" female npt fittings on both ends. I then put quick disconnects on both sides and connected it inline at my remote oil filter. Now the oil goes from the pan to the canton tube and back to the relocated filter and to the cooler and back to the pan.
The tube sits right on top of the intake runners and can be removed in a jiffy because of the quick disconnects.
The filter holds 1 Qt
the tube holds 3 qts
the lines and cooler hold a 1 qt
the pan holds 4 1/2 qts
So actually the engine has over 9 qts capacity.
If you have to ask why I did this, I live in vegas and it is extremely hot in the summer and the extra capacity helps keep the oil temp down. When it gets colder I can disconnect the unit in a few minutes and hook the quick disconnects together with no tube.
The one caveat is I'm using the larger 3.5 oil pump in my engine and it has no trouble pumping the oil through this set up. I don't know if the stock oil pump would do the job. One could use a 1 or 2 quart tube with the smaller pump.
I would have preferred a bigger oil pan but we all know there is no room for one period! I always enjoy trying these new mods. The guys at canton racing weren't sure if it would work but they now know it does.

Any Updates on this project? I have been thinking about having a larger oil capcity however, this doesn't prevent the oil from reaching the temps it would normally occur with the stock oil capcity, just delays it for a while longer, correct?
If so, then what is the point of doing it?
