new serpentine belt smell

new serpentine belt smell

ok after i installed my new high output alternator and changed to a belt, i notice a bit of a burning scent under the hood. is this the smell of the new belt just breaking in??

No, something is burning up.. You should check to see if the belt gets really hot. If it is, it might be too tight. If it isnt, then its not the belt, and you have a wire somewhere that is melting.

sorta..but it still smells just not as bad. I drive around with the volume cranked and then without it on at all, then see if I can notice a difference in the smells. I think it is the belt.

The volume cranked? What, do you have a kilowatt audio? Instead, turn on the headlights, the heated rear window, the blower fan to maximum, and play with the power seat/sunroof/ any other motorised item. oh, and wash the windows and use the wipers as well. That'll test the alternator output.
High output alts are all very well, but why did you install one, are you running extra amperage through the original harness? If so, you should have bought a high output wiring harness as well
