droped max to night having problems!! help

Whats up guys, i need a hand. I bought kyb agx shocks and progress springs, i installed the rears today and i am having a problem.
I assembled them, trimmed the bump stops, so i took it for a test run around a bumpy parking lot and i am getting this thump/ click noise, could it be because i trimmed the bump stops 1/2 way? i had my friend push down on the rear while i looked at the top of the shock assembly, and the nut and washer at the top, it has like 1/4-1/2 inch of play when I push down on the rear end, could that be because I trimmed the bump stops?
I was thinking tomorrow, before i do the fronts, to compress the springs so that i can take that nut off the tom ad shim it with grade 8 washers, should i do that or?? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Al Sousa

pull the strut off and make sure you put the metal washer at the bottom/inside of the bump stop. without that washer, the strut shaft just smashes though the bottom of the bump stop and will do exactly what you're describing. remove the shock and make sure that washer is there and you'll be good.

I still repeat my last statement. pull it apart and check for that washer. if it's not there, then it will do that. You're looking at 10 minutes of work to remove that shock. not a big deal. the rears on a 4 gen are cake. three bolts.

If that washer is there, then are you sure you got the nut down tight on the end of the strut shaft?

I am at work right now but when i get out i will check it out, It just dawned on me i think I trimmed the wrong bushing!!! you know the runner bushing that has the ridges on the side, i Trimmed that one in half, thats not the bump stop, is it? the bump stop is at the bottom of the dust boot right?

least you figured it out. I've done a lot dumber stuff than that before.. pulling my engine out again this weekend because of something simple I did that blew a brand new head gasket.
I just hope the rings aren't ruined by the antifreeze before I get a chance to get the thing apart.
