my friend has a 93 mr-2 n/a 5 speed and I have a 98 se without any mods. We raced tonight. From the red light, he was reving up and we were ready. As soon as the light turn green, we both punch it. He pulled 2 car lengths away from me. I did not catch up until he missed 4th gear. His car has no mods in it. Any idea what could have happen. Being the sore loser that I am, i'm blaming it on my full tank of gas or his 1/2 tank of gas. But I think it was just the driver... He even beat me two times after that. Afterwards, we talked and he suggested I get a cold air intake. I am trying to keep my car stock but now I'm thinking. Do you guys have a suggestions for a intake that creates the most hp. thanks

Here's a comparison between a cold air intake and just an intake:

Hey mike, I have an idea what happened...

Your buddy was driving a 2600 lb. car with 145 ft/lb's of torque and a 5 sp... you're in a car that weighs at least 500 pounds more, and even with 60 more torque, the only thing that would even it out is if you were 5sp and RWD. Since you're FWD, it makes launching a little harder, and if you're auto, you don't stand much of a chance.

Anyway, a CAI isn't really going to help unless you get a y-pipe too. Together, they're good for 15-20HP, the intake alone will net you 2 or 3... nothing noticeable. Also, these 2 mods will make you pretty loud at WOT, but you wouldn't know it during normal driving.

Good luck

Justin

This isn't a comparison of intakes, its a comparison of ECU's...

I somewhat disagree of how you were saying that if he is Auto, he doesn't stand much of a chance against a 5speed n/a MR2. My friend drives a MR2 Turbo of the same model and has an Apexi exhaust, intake, blowoff valve, and turbo timer. I drive a 96 Maxima SE auto with only an intake. Whenever we race from a dead stop, I always keep a 1/2 car length ahead of him until he pulls away from me at around 75mph. From this experience, I truly believe an auto Max shouldn't have a problem keeping up with a stock n/a MR2.

Sorry! I didn't see that. Well if he does decide to modify his ECU down the line, then he can see difference with both types of intakes.

I would go with a CAI, everyone I have talked to said that if you modify anything more besides just the intake it will be much better and add more power. Has anyone done a complete intake & exhaust system? I am about to do a CAI and Y-pipe and I want to know if I buy the b-pipe to go with it will I need a new muffler?(or should I get one anyway?) I would also like to know where I can get a R/T cat. Thanks.
