Muffler Problem! Please Help!

I recently purchased a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler for my Maxima.

I read on here that its one of the quietest muffflers around.

I have a Y-Pipe, Magnaflow Hi Flow Cat, and 2.5" from the cat back.

The problem is that this muffler is just too loud!!!

How can I silence it? Would a universal tip help?

This is what I bought:

thanks

yes I do (on the B-pipe)

I had a setup prior which consisted of a Dynomax clone muffler (from Warpspeed...it was very quiet)

2.5" is better for FI, for NAs 2.25" is enough

2.25 is ideal, but im running 2.5" from the headers to the cat... and 2.25" cat back

dont buy a universal tip! buy a apexi ws2 muffler! ;-)

btw i dont know where u read its one of the quietest mufflers around... the more your exhaust flows (well the FREER your exhaust flows) the more you should EXPECT it to get louder... the exhaust from your engine isnt being muffled (and slowed down)

there isn't a 2.25" aftermarket b-pipe AFAIK, so not much choice.

the dynomax has the highest flow rate of any muffler that uses redirective baffles/interior fill. even though it is inexpensive, it still packs a neat featureset and is actually quieter than most any other rear section. in fact, the installer i went to warned me that dynomax rear sections are normally very subdued

when i had a stock b-pipe with the cattman y-pipe, the superturbo sounded fantastic. it had a slight warble when cruising around and when you really got on the pedal it was deep and throaty. it was quiet when you wanted it to be and noticeable if you wanted it to be.

after I got the budget b-pipe i decided to go with another dynomax and unfortunately i have the same problem as slammed. it's not so much that it is loud, but that it drones inside the cabin between 1800 and 2600 rpm. if it didn't drone i'd have no problem, even though it is fairly loud.

i have a clip in the stickied exhaust compilation, if anyone is interested.

i've noticed that it is only loud at lower rpm's and quiets down after about 3500 rpm. slammed, which model are you running? i have the 17733 with a custom mated 2.5 flange/extension. my suspicion (as Dave Sz warned) is that it is loud at these RPM's because of the much smaller internal volume. at lower exhaust velocities the gasses are trapped by the flow redirectors and bounce around in the fill material, causing drone. at higher RPM i assume that the sheer velocity pushes the gasses out with so much force that they do not have the same propensity to linger and drone. this is all sheer conjecture on my part, so if someone knows better please correct me.

i may actually try switching to a larger capacity dynomax, the 17748. it is has the same "footprint", but is 25.5" inches long compared to the 17733 which is only 14.5". i just have to measure up how much room there is back there.

the other option is having my stock rear section welded on.

i wouldn't wait on warpspeed for an answer, they are notoriously bad as far as contact.

see if you can call cattman. he can at least give you some advice.

i'll keep you posted on what i do and the outcome

thank you!

Im actually trying to contact Dallas about a muffler he sold me.

I bought it about 1.5 years ago (Dynomax clone) and it started making a horrible rattling noise from the opening. I was wondering if it was covered by warranty. I called twice and was told that Dallas would contact me.
