Alright so today I start the car and while its warming up- the RPMs are around 1.2-1.3 as always but there is a strange whining sound. So i pop hte hood and it sounds like the sound is coming from the belts area. The sound gets louder the higher the RPMs are - not the faster I go. And also 2-3 hours later Battery light and Emergency Brake light is on.

What can be wrong Please Help out

but why would the emergency break light be on

 

More like 99.99%!! I know because i have 2maxes and have gone through 4alternators on my last onme and 1 alternator on my new one and all have the Brake light on!! Do i quick test to make sure.

If you have a voltmeter, start your car, connect the voltmeter positive and negative - rev your motor and see what happens. Under normal circumstances, the volts are supposed to rise. Or better yet just go to your local autozone have a free test to be 100% sure.

 

get alternator tested.

 

both on, the brake and batt. lights mean that your alternator is about to crap out on you, so get that fixed asap.

thanks for responses, ye i check the voltage and it only goes up by aorund .4 when I rev . GOing to go to the shop tomorrow to get a defenetie answer but looks like ill be needing an alternator

 

Alternator.. did that on my 92 sentra as well..

 

Tighten/replace the belt first.

 

Bad ground maybe? (for the whine)

 

do not plan on driving very far. Get it replaced imediately. and if the car starts stuttering while you are driving, get over to the shoulder or parking lot immediately.

 

oh and put your battery on the charger for a couple of hours before you take it out.

 

WOW that happened to me about 3days ago. I was riding and my Handbrake and Batt lgiht was on, so i ignore it, just think its a short or something, then my interior speakers go out and my subs had pepboys quality bass. so i waslike WTF?!> I floor it, the rpms didn't go above 3k it would sit at 3k like it was running out of gas, AT FULL THROTTLE. I pulled over and as soon as i cut my lights on, the car cut off. Jump started it, got back on the road, cute off again. This happened about 4 times, the 5th time , i didnt stop for anything and manual shifted my auto to keep my revs high, i was doing about 57mph in 2nd gear lol. Evertime i approched a light i threw it in neutral and kept revving it.lol. i seemed like some type of ricer, this guy in a 2002ish vette thought i was challenging him, and launch off the line.

All in all, our cars DESTROY alternators. the one that was on there i got with the car, it was already replaced with a remanufactured one, now i have a used one and everytime my bass hits, all the lights dim, and my rpms drop everytime i cut on anytime of lighting, hit the brakes, roll down the windows...etc...
