I used the red synthetic grease from Wally World. Universal all around grease. That was at least a year ago. Still starts without noise!!

pick up some throttle body cleaner to clean off the old-sticky grease.

First of all, the FSM said the grease should be hi-temp. grease. Any grease for high-temp use is good. I was using hi-temp bearing grease. All good.

Secondly, since you would remove the air duct up to throttle body, it's harmless to do a TB cleaning.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I used Mobil1 Synthetic Grease.

After 60K miles on the Mobil1 Syn Grease the starter starts like new with no sounds. Apply generously on the miniature gears of the starter.

ok finally did the starter today ... it wasn't that bad at all ... the hardest part in my opinion was getting the 2 bolts off, they required a lot of manual torque ... lol ... I'm in class right now, but when I get out I'll do the write up with the pictures ...

yeah when i was grounding my starter the 2 bolts were harsh. (I tried both of them before one of them actually came off)
