Thoes who have seafoamed....
For thoes who have used seafoam, have you ever had any bad expierences? Such as CEL coming on possibly for the O2 sensor? The only fuel system treatment I've used was an in tank treatment from red line. I've used it twice in the past and it seems like I had )2 sensors fail about a month after words. More than likely it was coinsidence, but just wonder if anyone has had similar problem after seafoaming. By the way I have a CA spec. Thanks in advance.
I have a 99 aswell. Sea foamed about 3 weeks ago about half the bottle into my brake booster line. Waited about 20-25 min and was smoking for like 10. No problems at all, although 2 o2's were new i didn't experience anything wrong. It helped out for a smoother idle and overall performance.
A week ago I tried the Redline fuel additive. There weren't any noticable change in how the vehicle performed.
I recently changed all 6 coil packs, about two weeks ago. It solved the misfiring, shutter, etc. Even after swapping the coils the idle was still alittle rough. That's when I bought the Redline crap, never again. This past weekend I did Seafoam treatment and the car is running like a dream.

i did have a cel turn on for me after i sea foamed it the first time i did it in this car it was a rear O2 sensor but i reset the cel and it hasnt happend again and i have sea foamed it since then with no issues. just try waiting a day and reset the CEL

They now sell it at autozone. You can also get it from advance auto parts and napa. It's around $6-7. When I used seafoam through my brake booster hose for the first time, it tripped the cel. The code came up as a misfire. My car ran like crap for a few minutes but once it was done smoking, it ran normal. The throttle response felt a bit better. I can't really tell you if the gas milage increased cause I got a heavy foot. But I think its definately something that should be done as regular maintenance to try to clean out some of the carbon build up.
So I seafoamed on monday, slowly dumped half the can in the break booster vacuum line, shut the car of for 15 mins. Fired it back up, I was surprised I didn't see any of the smoke everyone talks of, that is till I started to rev it up a little. After it was done smoking, I dumped the other half of the can in. Again I let it sit for another 15 mins. Took it out for a little drive, to clean out the rest of the seafoam and saw a little blue smoke. The blue smoke I would asume was what the seafoam had broken up and dissolved. Needless to say, the car seems to idle a bit smother, but I didn't realy notice much anything else. We'll see how it affects my gas milage when I empty this tank.
That seems like Seafoam overkill to me. I thought 1/3 of a can was the recommended volume to use.

hey maxima se96, maybe you can get 93 octane in the big apple but out west at least where I am, you are lucky to get 92 octane. I still get a slight ping around 3300 rpm. My mileage is real good but the power seems to have tailed off. Manual says 91 is adequate. Do you ever get a ping at that rpm? Any suggestions? I have been told that the timing is right on the edge for leaness and power. Agree?
I did seafoam the second day i bought my 98 se w/188K *i'd figure who ever had it never did seafoam so..., i put 1/2 of the bottle in the brakebooster line, and the rest in the gas tank, then i waited 10min. crankd itup, smoked for like 20min, drove it hard for like 5miles.... then changed spark plugs, and dumpd one bottle in my oil *crankcase* left it one for 5min, turnd it off and then changed oil... OMG that car was runin sooooooooooooo much better after all that stuff.. i recommend it to everyone!!!
Ok, I plan to Seafoam very soon and my plan is to take off the hose on the intake manifold that comes in from the brake booster line, attach another longer hose to the manifold (so I can keep my thumb on it to keep the car from stalling) and then feed in the Seafoam. I did this on an old 87 BMW 3-series and it worked fine. Am I likely to run into any problems with the maxima using this technique? As far as I can tell, it's pretty much the ascribed procedure.

I removed the vacuum line from the booster and it didn't stall. the idle fluctuated a lot and ran a little rough, but did not stall, I stuck a funnel in the end of the line and just poured it in slowly. My engine was rockin a bit but it never stalled. Some cars a a bit more tempermental than others tho.
a couple of points that confuse me.
1) why do people think seeing smoke is actually doing something? i can pour antifreeze in my intake adn watch it smoke.
2) why would anyone even think that blue smoke is a good thing? anyone who works on cars knows that antifreeze smokes white, oil smokes blue and carbon smokes black
3) am i the only one who is a bit suspicious of something that claims to clean the injectors and the oil? if it burns off well enough for the the injectors/cylinders etc surely it cant be good for oil viscosity and life. somehow i dont see TB cleaner being a good oil additive too.
i could be wrong and have never tried the stuff but has anyone ever seen some REAL improvements? any pics or proof of cleaning? perhaps someone has opened up the motor and can show before/after pics? maybe someone has fed the seafoam in before the TB and can show if that has had a significant change or not? not doubting anyone but it seems a bit like smoke and mirrors to me. "the smoke means its working". kind oflike MArvel Mystery Oil.

I had a 99 before my 02, and I wouldn't touch my engine with this stuff. Everyone talking about the thing smoking being a good thing... I walked away. Seems to me like people supporting this stuff may only be seeing improvements in their head, or otherwise are changing oil and plugs at the same time which can account for vast improvements. My feeling on it is, if you want to clean the fuel system, Chevron Techron in the gas tank. If you want to clean the case, Auto-RX treatment. Both of these seem like far better and cleaner ideas than a product that says the car smoking is a good thing.
***Edit***
just to add, I never tried this stuff, so I don't know for sure about its supposed quality. I haven't really researched it either, so I may be full of BS. This is purely opinion on my part in comparing 2 methods of cleaning up the case and fuel system.
Seafoam's additives clean out our injectors of the gum and buildup that often cause them to get clogged up. I've also used RedLine with great results.
The LAST time I ran seafoam through the vaccum, I had an O2 sensor show up on the CEL but it went away after a week. I paniced and ordered a new O2 sensor. When it came in, I re-checked the codes before I put the new sensor in and it posted a 5x5. Huh? I replaced it anyways and ran the old O2 sensor through the tests from the FSM. It's fine. @#@*$*! $100 for nothing because I paniced. But it was the SEAFOAM that caused the false CEL.
Anyways, if you run SEAFOAM or REDLINE through your car, and your O2 sensors come up, give it a few weeks and see if the issue remains. I'm sure its just the byproducts of the cleaning causing them to throw the codes. Wait a bit and the CEL should go away.
