Upgrading 4th Gen brakes to 5th Gen

Is this worth the effort, going from 11" to 11.6" rotors? I can't go bigger because I have to be able to fit 15" rims over them but I am having trouble holding it on the starting line with the automatic using my line-lock.

These are available used for about $90 (rotors and calipers) and installing with Hawk HPS pads.

Comments? Thanks
Jim

You have to drill for new bolts and that's it. Worth it, maybe, your car is lighter than most so it should help. You should look into the 2piston calipers from a J or Q too.

I thought the drilling is required only when upgrading the 4th to 6th calipers?

The 5.5 gen also uses smaller spindle hub bolt opening for the caliper?

Edit: just looked it up myself and now that I see the specs I do remember the rotor size being different. Anyone know the specifics on the caliper replacement (since there's conflicting information in this thread?)

I think you should try for 6th gen brakes if you want to upgrade. I dont see why a .6" would be worth the work.

If you can find a 15" wheel that will fit over the 6th Gen brakes I will. The whole reason for doing this as I stated is to be able to hold the car on the line with the line-lock at the track.

Ok guys. After some more research I think I have decided to go with the Q45 calipers, 300ZX rotors and HPS Pads.

From what I have read this should work and still be able to fit 15" wheels. Am I on the right track? Also it appears that the J30 and Q45 calipers are the same.

Correct.

J30 calipers look different but essentially they are the same.

Thanks for the help, I think this should work much better than the 5.5 Gen setup.

I spent a few months on here being on the receiving end and now lately I seem to be most on the giving end of the information chain. Howeve my knowledge is limited to just a few specific areas.

Brakes are not my strong point, the way my car works now I actually have to his the throttle at the end of the 1/4 to get to the ticket booth, we have a 1/2 mile shutdown so the brakes are only for the launch. I have lost at least 6 or 7 races this year because of the brakes not holding and its very frustrating.

Thank you all again.
