URGENT: '03 reprogrammed, now installing Berk Intake; will I lose the reprogram?

I just got back from the Nissan Dealer who, reluctantly, reprogrammed my ECM per the technical service bulliten (-022). The whole power lag thing is gone, car runs awesome, as expected. The dealer seems pretty upset. (they wanted me to buy a new MAF)

So I'm about to install my new-in-box Berk Intake. Berk install instructions start off with disconnecting the negative terminal; will disconnecting the battery make me lose the updated ECM reprogram (that I just got charged $160 for- WTF- is this expensive?)
I need to know before I undo my expensive a$$ reprogram. The hood is up on my car.... intake is waiting patiently on the floor......

Thanks

ECM code is persistent - any cahnges that the dealer did is non volatile - so you disconnecting the battery will not be any problem.

I will ask you the one question though:

I just picked up a 03 Maxima SE with 63K miles. none of the TSBs have been performed on the car. Even though the car was registered with the dealer, the owner was never advised on any of the TSBs.

I was reading thru the TSBs and there is one on ECM reprogramming with the MAF replacement, there is one on replacing bunch of sensors - can the dealer be made to honor these TSBs now that the car is out of warranty (63K miles) - the dealer never informed the previous owner that these TSBs are in the system

Thanks

So these TSBs are not recalls, right?

Which means for cars that are utside of warranty will not be covered. AM I reading *** right?

Update: I did not disconnect my Battery (although maybe I should to have it re-learn- I'll do further post searching). The intake is installed! haven't turned the car on yet.....

The TSB that I just had done this morning was the "throttle hesitation" one. It is not covered under warrenty. (which is pretty F'd up because my car, although a 2003, only has 23K on it!) I haven't made a comprehensive search for "recalls", but to my knowledge the majority of the TSB's out for the '03 are purely to help the dealer fix common problems; i.e. does not matter to you- you still pay.

Off to wash my hands and start 'er up!

Disconnecting the battery will not make the ECU lose/forget anything. It's permanently altered, don't worry about it.

Disconnecting the battery on a 5.5 will not upset or erase any reprogramming to the ECM, nor can you make the car "learn" anything by disconnecting the battery.

Thanks all-

Tried it out, runs great, sounds great! I don't really notice much power gain, but I really like the way it sounds, and I like the fact that it only sounds "mean" when you really romp on it, so you can have a quiet ride still if you want to.

NO Engine Codes! Whew. After seeing other threads, I was a little worried.

Something weird, or maybe I just don't know about it, but it sounds almost like a Honda's V-tec kicking in as soon as I pass 4K rpms. Sounds really nice, but I wasn't expecting it. We got any sort of variable valve/intake system on our cars?

And to answer your question, rchun08- yes, I just forked over $160.00 for TSB work.

TSBs don't mean free repairs, they are not warranties or recalls, rather they are bulletins put out so that techs have common solutions to common problems.

Yes. The VIAS on a 5.5 gen opens up at 4500RPM.

There's quite a treatise on variable valve timing on Wikipedia, with info and/or links to info for every manufacturer of an engine featuring it. Check it out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_valve_timing

and here's their whole run-down on the VQ35DE:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine#VQ35DE

Enjoy!

No. The VIAS on a 5.5 Gen is open below 1800 rpms and above 3600 rpms. It is closed between 1800-3600 rpms.
