I went through the rubber plug that covers a hole that runs from the engine bay to the interior. I'd imagine you'd have the same plug. Look down around your pedals and over towards where the main wiring is running through the firewall.

if you don't feel like drilling and the cable is not that thick take off your driver side front wheel and take off the fender liner. YOU'll see a harness going from the engine bay to the interior of the car. You can follow that harness.

StL I30 - can you take a pic of this location? I searched for literally 2 hours today trying to find such a spot with no luck...

I will eventually jack up the car and take off the fender liner as I HATE drilling, but I would love to find some rubber spot to go through...

thanks.

No drilling is required.

Under the drivers side fender plastic there is a huge groument from were the main harness goes into the car.

The wire will pop up above by were the clutch pedal is or would be.

And the other end will be next to the clutch slave cylinder.

Good luck.

I have been reading about this spot - and I am trying to do this w/out taking the wheel off (I don't have a floor jack here and hate using the spare tire jack) - is that at all possible or is it a necessity to take off the wheel so you can take off the fender plastic?

FYI once I do this I will take a picture cuz I know a bunch of people have asked about it before.

I did it without taking off the wheel but i did have to jack the car up and unscrew the mudflap and the feder lining screws then i kinda pulled back the fender lining

Kelly - IIRC only the A33 I30/I35 have this plug. The 5th gens don't have it.

I am not sure about this because I am unable to see exactly where the wiring harness comes through the firewall (since it's behind some very hard to move plastic on the inside of the car and behind the wheel well cover from the outside)...

I do have an automatic though, so maybe I'll just suck it up and drill through the location where the clutch pedal would have come through...

Q

Can somebody confirm if a 2001 auto AE Max has this factory hole before I take off the wheel or start drilling? Pics would be great.

You dont have to drill.

Take off the wheel on the drivers side, and take off the plastic lineing that goes under the fender. And you will see a harness of wires going into the firewall throught a big groment, just pop a hole in the groment and run the wire throught it.

The wire will come out above the clutch pedal area.

I gave up and simply drilled through where the clutch would be if I had one. Looks great though, It's a perfect location to go through the firewall... I recomend this method for people who aren't able to easily jack up the car (like myself)

thanks for all the help!!! :-)

I just did this yesterday. There is a plug for an 01 AE auto (what I have). I took out the glove box and beding it you will see a black box (I believe this is the AC filter) Behind that there is a wiring harness with a rubber plug holding it in place. Remove the rubber plus and use a coat hanger to bring the power cable up. It wasnt all that difficult once you find it, but its there...

Does anyone ever go under the car with the Maxima? In my '98 240 I ran a pair of wire loomed 4AWG cables back to the spare tire well. There was a blank grommet that I was able to drill out for the two wires drops and that never gave me any problems. Anyone tried similiar runs with the Maxi?

I don't think having wire exposed like that (under the car) is a good idea. I would rather have it go through the inside of the car.

Yea, I'm not sure it was either, it worked and I knew a few shops that were doing it pretty frequently, which of course doesn't make it right.

On the flipside I can't really see the downside, if it's loomed and running down the length of the car securely attached and not interfering with the suspension of driveline (not an issue w/ the Maxi. )

I've had things hit the underside of my car pretty hard as I am driving on the road. I would not take that chance.

No, just little things on the highway and stuff that give pretty good thumps under your feet .
