4th Gen Maxima in Lexington, KY

Guys,

It's been over three years since I last posted on the org. I used to drive a modded black '98 Maxima 5-speed which was traded in for a 350Z in November of 2003. To make a long story short, I spotted my old car today on the road with a Maxima.org sticker on the back windshield and I'm real curious to learn more about the current owner of the car. My old car seemed to be in really good shape and I want to see how she's running. When I saw my old car today it brought back a lot of good memories. I loved that car and I learned tons of useful info about it from the org. FYI, I still think to this day that my Maxima was a much better driving car than my Z and its build quality was also superior.

Best regards,

Kaveh

Hmm.. I agree, all my damn friends have a G or Z it seems and all have driven my car and say that they enjoyed it more cruising wise.

The damn Z beats the hell out of me every time I drive it. That british guy in the car series "Top Speed" said the same thing haha. Fast and sporty though, good luck.

Apparition,

The Maxima is by far the better cruiser. I've done a lot of work to my Z's suspension including springs, shocks, and sway bars and the car handles like it's on rails but it'll jarr you to death on the open road. The only thing that the Z has on the Maxima is looks (I'm biased) and handling. A 5-speed 4th gen with bolt-ons including MEVI will give a stock Z a run for it's money. My Z has all the usual bolt-ons (intake, plenum, headers, race pipes, NISMO catback) and a tune and I'm barely breaking 280 WHP. My best time at the track was 13.6 @ 109 mph. Bolt-ons are a waste for the Z but I've got an APS single turbo on order which I hope on installing sometime next month. Hopefully by then I'll be pushing 400 WHP with a 12 second 1/4 mile.

It's interesting you say that cause the guys around here are of the same impression, that bolt-ons just dont do near what they do on the maxima.

But then again, that should make sense.. A 3L VQ should make more that 190hp and 205tq, especially at the crank. I mean the VQ25 made about that, so right there you know its down tuned and/ or restricted. As where the G/Z doesn't seem to have nearly the same amount of restriction. Still, I'd like to have 280whp haha, but at the Z's weight that really isn't saying much considering I watch S13's with 230rwhp stomping the hell out of the G and Z's, even when they're modded. It's disappointing, the weight I mean.

I used my old friend the search button and I think I found the current owner of my old car. His screen name is Jmeister and he's done a lot of work to the car which I planned on doing before I traded it in (MEVI, UDP, tune). I'll always have a soft spot for the 4th gen Maxima.

She's doing good, you had already done most of the hard/expensive work to it. I PM'd you back, wondered who the hell that was staring down the car. lol
Finally realized it was you. You still in Lex, saw you had Louisville plates?
Hit me up, I'll let you take her for a spin.
Sorry you had to see it so damn dirty though, I was ashamed.

I thought I might've freaked you out a little bit. I saw you from far away and I instantly knew it was my old car because of the exhaust. I'm still in Lex and the Z is sitting in the garage and the car that you saw me in is my company car. This whole ordeal reminds me of those VW commercials where the previous owner of the car calls the new owner and invites him to hang out. Only a fellow car nut would understand my attachment to car I used to own! And don't worry about the car being dirty.... it's still a daily driver.

There's a pretty good import scene in Richmond. Check out lexistreets.com the Richmond section

I almost bought it..

OK Kaveh, here's another twist to it... I saw your car sitting in the lot and went in and took it for a spin. I was seriously considering getting it but I think they were asking for about 10K at the time and I ended up getting mine for 7.5K from IN in Dec of 03.I still remember your name from the sales girl at superior nissan, I got your contact info from her to get more details on the mods. I have since moved to cincinnati and then to charlotte and racked up about 80K+ miles on mine...it's a small world man! looks like you're about to have a ton of fun with that turbo..

Apparition - u mean Top Gear?

NY -> EKU? Law enforcement? or nursing?

It's a small world. The sales girl at the dealership was super stoked because I was her first sale and I didn't give her any headaches. I was orginally going to sell my Maxima to an org member from Rhode Island but I didn't want to mess with shipping the car and doing an out of state title transfer. In 2003 my Maxima had only just broken 50K miles and it was babied (all synthetic fluids, recent tune up, new KS, etc.) I'm seriously considering buying a 2003 Maxima for my fiance. I need to have another Maxima in the family!!

well Maximas are built for luxury, the Z is built for sports and it was designed to let u "feel" the speed, so its no wonder other people would choose the maxima's luxury feel over bruising speed.

Wow. I had no idea so many people had interst in my old Maxima. If I would've had more patience I probably could've personally sold my old car to one of you guys and saved you a couple of $$$. But the dealer did give me a deal I couldn't refuse.
