Well, the O2 bung on my main cat is completely stripped, and I can't even get a bolt to thread in there to plug the hole. I'm probably just gonna JBweld the the hole shut for now to stop the noise, but does anyone know the best place to get a direct fit OE cat? Any recommendation on which brand to get?

Drill it out and put a heli coil (sp?) in there. It will be as good as new and should only cost you about 6 bucks.

 

Junkyards cut off exhausts and throw them away.

Legally speaking, you can only buy exhaust parts from an exhaust shop. Used exhaust parts are a no-no.

Of course, that hasn't stopped anyone from buying one on the classified forum.

Try what njmaxseltd said, if that doesnt work or you dont feel like doing that, buy a warpspeed hi-flow. They are cheaper than OEM, bolt up just like oem and pass emissions.

Oh, well it costs $175 which is more than any of the OE replacements I've found. What about the high-flow 'Carsound' ones on the warpspeed site? Are they emissions legal as well?

 

No need for the Metallic Substrate cat, just get the Carsound for $100
Talked to Dallas before I got mine, he say's there's no big difference.
Also comes with all necessary gaskets & hardware for install.

 

check ebay for carsound universal cats for $60 or so shipped....I dont know the piping diameter under the Maxima, but find that out, and get the same diameter universal cat, that is OBDII compliant.

it will pass smog/emissions without issues unless you get a defective one lol

 

Damn, there are some great deals on those ebay Carsound ones, but they aren't the bolt-on ones, looks like they would require welding.

seriously though, welding is not even a big deal....ANY exhaust shop can do that for a very reasonable price, and in less than an hour....just think about one hour labor rate....what, like ~$75

My threads are completely flattened out, not just corroded or anything, I can't imagine they could be fixed by that.

 

i think iv used that chaser before it doesnt fit.. aka work.... i had my pops get me a tap from work... best thing to do is go to menards or ACE (the helpful place) and find what kinda thread that o2 sensor is.. then look for the correct tap....

 

$175 is for the California cats, regular ones are only $100. OEM cats from Nissan are a few hundred dollars. $100 for a good fitting cat that doesnt require welding is a good deal.

 

I'd go with the $100 cat. Original stock one is probably close to dead anyway.
