Tokico Illumina guys...

What is your "comfort" setting? I currently have 2 in the front and 3 in the back... what would you consider as ultimate comfort setting for these shocks?

I have always run mine set on 1 front and back. Seems good to me but I have to admit I haven't tried any other settings.

I got 4F and 3R on Illumina/S-Tech setup. I tried 3F/3R a bit too soft and 4F/4R a bit too stiff in the back.

I have to ask...how did you get the decimal settings?

BTW..Eibach/Illuminas here..settings are
2F & 2R...thinking of dropping the rear to 1 for comfort. The recommendation is a harder setting on the rear to conter the inherent understeer of the car. My experience is that the rear is lighter, so for rear passenger comfort, a softer setting is good.

I rarely ever have any passengers in the back... aside from my gf and I...

Think 1 and 2 would be good? Isn't 1 wayyyy soft? I've never messed around with it since I don't wanna screw them up by having them either too stiff or too soft for a prolonged period of time if it does indeed cause damage...

I have H&R springs with mine. If I have the rear set to anything less than 4, I bottom out very easily from a bump or a dip in the road. I have 235/45/17 tires and the fender will rub the sidewall of the tires. I rarely have anyone in the back seat, but if I do it bottoms out with only the slightest of road surface irregularities. Anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

I tried 1 & 2 F, settings are too soft for the front (besides winter at 2)
Remember all the weight is in front, so I think it's best to keep it at 3.

BTW:I have the rear at 5 occasionally, when I'm in back with your gf... J/K

was at 2/3, now at 1/3 and loving it! i definately feel the deterioration in handling from 2/3, but with the roads here the way they are, the ride is more compliant.

If I were in NY, I'd probably have them at a lower setting.
But Comrade being in Cali with the roads being better, I think you'll like 3-3.

Before I got my 18" wheels my settings were 2F 3R, sometimes 3F 4R (with S-Techs). I find those settings way too jarring now. Everytime I ran over a little pothole it would feel like I had done some damage to my suspension or bent my rim. I've had to adjust them down to 1F 1R. The handling is obviously not the same anymore but I don't mind, I just don't drive as crazy.

I think matching the Illumina's to the springs is the best. I have them set at 1-2f and 2r with stock SE springs. I had the H&R setup and needed to run them as high as 4F and 5R. It's all about the springs. Experiment for the best fit for your springs.

Curious. What kind of difference did you notice between your stock struts & stock springs vs. your Illumina's and stock springs? I'm wanting to get the Illumina's to pair with my stock springs, but if the handling and comfort is negligible, then I'd might as well stay with the stockers and burn my dough on SFC's and a LTB.

Thanks for your input.

The roads in the Atlanta area generally suck or I would have stayed with the H&R/Illumina combo. On mountain roads the Max handled 100% better than stock. Potholes shook my cd player and my teeth. The Illumina are as soft as stock on 1F. But about 20% harder than stock struts on 2F. You never loose the comfort, because the SE springs are soft. Great combo for ME! Since you are local we could meet up and you can see first hand!!

Interestingly, my dearly-departed '86 626 turbo had the electronically adjustable suspension. There were 3 settings (I think..it's been awhile)
- Normal
- Sport
- Auto

Normal was the softest, while sport had both front & rear at hard settings. The auto setting would "automatically " set the fronts to hard at h/way speeds, leaving the rear at normal stiffness. The manual said this enabled better directional stability at highway speed. I miss some of the features on that car...

Sorry, let me elaborate. The dial is turned halfway between 2 and 3 (or 3 and 4). How about 2+ F, 3+ R? 2ish and 3ish?

If I had those springs, I'd start at 3F,3R and adjust stiffer. Those springs are pretty stiff and the ride is stiff. But with the stiff ride you get exceptional handling. Enjoy!

This is what I found out about Eibach Pro-Kit:
Eibach Pro-kit Springs
Description: The Eibach Pro-kit has a 1.5" front 1.3" rear drop and are known to be fairly stiff. Probably one of the top performing springs (next to race coilovers) due to the stiffness and ride height. These springs are known to be stiff and should be paired with Koni Yellows, KYB AGX, or Tokico Illuminas. Spring rates = Front 166~257 / Rear 166~343.
