I have one of the infamous cars...

infamous for burning oil that is. Well this is my 2nd oil change since my purchase. The first one was done at a local shop nearby were i used to work and that was the secord day of ownership. They use mobil 5w-30 oil w/ generic filter. Well i changed my oil today after only 16xx miles and i measured it out and only 3.5 quarts came out with filter. So i was really bummed because i didnt want to face the reality that i might have one of the "oil burning" cars. This time i stepped it up to Castrol GTX 10W-30 oil with a Mobil 1 M1-108 filter. I know that i should got the M1-105 filter but they were all out of them and the mobil filter book called for this filter anyway. I put exactly 4.25 in it and im going to keep an eye on it. I usally change the oil in most of my cars at arould 2500 miles because im **** but whatever. Im going to give Castrol GTX a shot and see what happens. I wanted to run a thicker grade versus 5W-30 and see if that would help the burning a little even if it was 1/4 quart. I was on the fence w/ mobil 1 oil but i decided that after 73k miles that any dirt build up may wash away w/ the use of M1 and that it may cause more problems. Im going to stick with regular for now and play the waiting game. On a brighter note, i hope you guys/girls are enjoying this awesome weather were having.

How long did you wait after you shut the engine off to do the change? If less then about 10 minutes, you're probably going to drain less oil.

And I've always needed to add 4.75 to get to the full mark.

can anyone confirm this? the owners manual calls for 4.25 quarts (US) but i dont want to be a half quart short either.
also how did you check your dipstick, after operating temp then 10 mins later or right after you put the new oil in and started the motor? also was it on a flat surface or a surface that looked flat?

i waited about 20 mins. if that 10 extra minutes makes any difference. also the car sat on a incline for 20 mins so gravity pulled most of it down.

There is still oil in the engine...You can never get all of it out. Of course you will have less than you put in.
