minimal hp gains but it helps the engine breathe better and enhances exhaust flow due to the free flow design. nothing noticable as far as noise. the y-pipe and muffler are the noise makers. the cat is obd II compliant and should PASS not past, both visual inspection and emission testing. make sure the vehicle is good and warm before any smog test.

. . .
HP gain and sound change are somewhat dependent on the model and inlet/outlet size of the cat. Random makes specific fit and universal fit models. Higher flow models will give you a little more top end power and a little more sound everywhere. As I remember, the tech guy was very helpful and providing lots of info over the phone about flow.

And you can relax regarding the sniffer test. I recently tested (idle test) at 26 ppm HC and 0.01% CO with a universal fit (4" in/4" out!) single Random Tech cat on the Malibu (EFI, long tube headers, high 300's net HP & T) after over 15000 miles of service. This after it sat at idle for at least 15 minutes, too.
