looking for underdrive pulleys...advice

hey im thinking about replacing my underdrive pulley with an aftermarket smaller/lighter one. reading up i see general consensus says its adds about 5-10 hp with the draw back being you get less amps outta the generator.

im just looking to see if anyone has any experience or stories that could be helpful or advice if this is even worth it. also is the drawback of less amps a big deal? i dont have any subs or amps in my car, just an aftermarket head unit

looking around i might be able to get a motosport one for $80. also theres one on ebay (yes i know its ebay so therefore is probly crappy) that i was wondering if its any good: here.

thanks

oh, ok...
well, this is one of those things where you're gonna need to try it out and decide for yourself if you like it, because half of the people are going to swear by it and the others are gonna say you're wasting money. make sure you research the brand because i believe there was one that had oil leak issues and i dont know if it was corrected, so keep a eye on that part. as for my experience, my motostorm didnt hurt a thing and i had a sound system. a/c felt the same, im not sure about the performance aspect though. im going to try it again but this time on a 5 speed to see if theres any difference. so, i too am on the look-out for one.

UDP's do not "ADD HP." They may free up a few by reducing the amount of energy expended by the pulley and belt system.

The vast majority of energy produced by our cars is wasted heat energy. With that in mind, anything that you can do to reduce the energy loss to heat will translate into a more efficient engine and drive train.

In other words, a cooler running system will produce more HP than a hotter running one. The UDP will not make your engine run any cooler, however.

I noticed a considerable gain on my previous (3rd Gen VE30) maxima in terms of acceleration between 0-30 mph when I installed a UDP. Seems like the folks in the 3rd Gen forum are in general more + on it than on 4th gens. I didn't really notice any difference in terms of AC performance and didn't have any trouble with anything else "belt driven." I was pleased with the results I got for the money I spent and had planned to put one on my 99 SE but maybe not now

Here's the outcome of mine:
Good: Revs quicker bc as said earlier, it 'frees' up hp loss in rotating masses.
Small noticeable improvement in bottom end/ light to light-1-2nd gear pulls.

Bad: At an idle, charging system cannot recover from bass, If in parking lot or at drive in.
A/C produces a bad squeel if under a heavy load (A/C on and blower on high. With lights and Fog lamps on.)

Notes: Since I bought the cheap ebay knockoff, I had to open my crank opening up a litle more (thank god my friend actually owns a lathe). Since it did not fit onto the crank originally. So that was a bit of a hassle.
Was it worth it? I would say for the $40 it was, but not with the added work involved. But I would not pay the price of a name brand one for the improvement I received.

ive had my underdrive pulley for 8 years no problums.

i say if you want to get every last HP out of your car youll use a underdrive pulley.if you dont care about small gains here and there from certain things than a underdrive pulley isnt for you.

iam gonna be switching to a lighter alternater pulley this year also

Are they worth it.. yes.

But there are waaay easier mods to get more HP than a UDP will net you. You could probably pick up a B-pipe and net the same HP as a UDP for the same price, for example. You also won't be hatin' life after 4 hours of trying to get the crank shaft bolt off.
