Car "squeaking"

Hello to all!

My car has 160k miles on it and I definitely that all the rubber pieces in the suspension are dated by now.
It squeaks a lot when moving from dead stop and stopping. It also squeaks when going over a bump or pothole.
Which parts do you think those are - that squeak?
Is it expensive to change out all those pieces of as many as you can... with polyurethane components? I know energy suspension company - or something like that was selling the "kit" with those for a while, but lost the link on that.

Thanks

I think that it might be a very challening undertaking for a 3 yr old. But when i had a gooing-over-bumps squak, it turned out to be the swaybar endlink.

Surely you're heard of the 15-year old that performs C-sections and such.
In comparison with that, changing out a swaybar endlink seems pale and unchallenging, even for a 3-year old.

Thanks though.

It aint' the clutch, but thanks.

The problem might be easier to fix than you think. I have mostly new rubber parts/struts,etc. up front, and have some squeaking like you mentioned. My problem is actually caused by a leaky rear valve cover gasket that drops a small amount of oil down on the steering rack and sway bar. When the oil gets on the swaybar mount, it causes squeaking big time. The problem goes away when I clean everything off. It takes loosening up the mount and taking off the rubber mount to clean it the best...spraying it with degreaser from the outside won't get it. I'm too lazy to replace that gasket, but that is definitely the problem.

That's a possibility too.

thanks guys,
I'm actually very confident that it's the suspension that makes the noise.
It's hard to describe the noise, or the origin of it, you'd have to hear it....

That's why I asked about replacing the rubber components out.

Yeah mine does it too, and you're right, it's hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from... seems like the sound is all around. And it only happens when you're going slowly!

My rear suspension squeaks a lot, but I determined it's the bushings on my rear sway bar. A friend told me that you're supposed to grease them, although I don't remember seeing that in the installation instructions (this is assuming that I actually read them).

i have the same prob its definately suspension, im getting it fixed real soon, so we'll see if teh noise goes away, but we also think it could be the wheel bearing and sway bar?

im no expert but ive heard alot about replacing the 4 bushings in the front/ ithink they are are called the upper and lower control arm bushings/get the energy suspension ones/and the sway bar end links and/or bushings. these things usually go bad between 100 and 160k.your there! these items are almost always the cause of squeaking/assuming that it is not a metal sound/brakes or something else

My car does the same thing ( I think). it also squeaks sometimes when you turn the wheel when you are stopped and makes a little humming noise at higher speeds. All three sounds seem to come from drivers side front.

Aeiou, if it makes a humming noise @ higher speeds, then it could be a wheel bearing

Maxihari squeeks at a stop and turning> check ur strut bearing, may be worn, check ur upper/lower insulators and spring seat for cracks and A-arm bushings. also upper mounts for cracks-all rubber components

swaybar endlinks for sure. it took me 2 years to figure it out. while you're at it, change the bushings to energy suspension polyurethane ones

Most likely its the bushes for the rear beam.. you've got the beam that goes across the car .. and on each side is like a pivoting support beam that is connected to beam and the car via bushes.. mine are shot and shockplace said thats whats causing squeak.

Are these all expensive fixes? Something I can do on my own?
These endbar links, bushings and such.

If I had to guess id say your swaybar bushings are had it. I know one of mine is cracked right now and when I hit bumps and what not it squeaks. Id just take off the wheel and start inspecting just for a cracked bushing.

You should be able to change the endlinks and swaybar bushings yourself as for the lower control arm bushings, I had mine pressed out and changed with energy suspension bushing. As Mxrider said inspect everything- also if you have oil or PS fluid on your lower bush they're probably shot, the oil breaks down the bushing.

Are these difficult to replace? What about the front bushings? I've considered doing the Energy Suspension thing but from the writeups it sounds pretty involved.

unless your a pretty experienced "car guy' i wouldn't do it /the 4 control arm bushings/not the end links ones/are pretty involved/.plus im sure you need to re align the car/it took firestone/3 1/2 hours/but boy did it feel good after putting the energy suspension bushings!

i've been having the same squeaking problem... we narrowed it down to the driver's side front end in the bushings. they can get fairly pricey to replace since there is quite a few of them, and determining which one if not all is squeaking is almost impossible.

i soaked them all with some WD-40 a few times over the course of a week and the sound has yet to come back.. knock on wood.
