Putting Headlights back togethar
Putting Headlights back togethar
Hey. I'm finishing up one of my headlights retro fit with projectors. There is not enough glue on the headlight to make a good clean seal. Should I bake the headlight to heat the glue up. Then take it out and put silicone sealant around the seal and put the 2 parts together? Or put the silicone on before I bake it. How has everyone else done it?

P.S. Do you lay the housing on its side or face up? It seems like if it were on it's side the glue would run on the inside.

I don't understand you saying there is not enough. When you take your lights apart try not to scrape off any of the sealant unless absolutely necessary. Even if you take some off there should be enough to seal it back up. A little silicone on the lights should be fine, the lens would have to be kinda far away from the reflector rim for it to leak. Happy retrofitting.
you most have done something if you don't have enough glue. The light needs to be reheated to put things back together or the glue is just hard...you did do that correct? If so then the light should go right back together unless you pealed out the glue when you took them apart....
I didn't do anything to the glue. There was already some space between it (meaning I can blow air through). I put silicone on the housing, put the two together and stuck it in the oven. It worked well. I'm just afraid there will be condensation if it's not completely sealed.
Get some Nissan Rubber Butyl sealant. It is black in color and doesn't flake, discolor or ever dry out. Best thing ever and it is free from the dealer. I used silicon the first time I retro'd and I kind of regretted that decision.
And as far as putting them back together, you need to first heat the original glue again, put the two halves together and then add more sealant around the cracks to prevent condensation.

That "glue" is called butyl sealer and nissan sells it if you wanna buy it here is the link http://performancenissanparts.com/pr...id=5577&rsku=0
