Big Decision! Transmission questions

Ok. I have a big decision to make and i need some help. I bought a maxima that needs a motor. I have a motor to replace it. No biggie. The bad motor (motor A) came with a manual transmission. Good motor (motor b) came with an automatic. Both motors with transmissions are out of the car.

I forgot why but i took the manual to a transmission shop and he said when you turn the input shaft, it sounds horrible. Sounds like the bearing fell off inside and i need another transmission. Well, a manual from a junkyard costs 500 bucks. I have an automatic so it would be free but i'd have to convert everything in the manual to an automatic. So that would be more work.

Also, i was looking to sell this max once it was done. Automatic would be easier to sell than manual but more work for me to convert over.

On a side note, i just got a job that requires me to move. My parents wouldn't mind holding everything here for me but i need to figure out what to do with it.

Can i fix this transmission? My options are fix transmission, get a used transmission but spend alot, transfere all manual stuff to automatic, or just sell everything which i don't really want to do. What should i do? Really need some serious help on this. Thanks

Fix the transmission, or at least open it to know for sure if it's broken. If you're capable of doing all the work you're doing already, then you're capable of fixing the manual tranny. Front input shaft bearing is a very common problem, it's also cheap to fix if you do the work yourself. If you don't have a full automatic parts car available, this is the easiest option.

I have a tranny problem too.

When I put my 93 GXE into drive (automatic) into drive, the car won't move. But when I put it into 2nd the car finally moves. Once the car is moving, I put the car back into drive and everything is fine.

Sounds like I need to new transmission from what I have been hearing from family. My question is should I have a shop do the work for me? Are there any alternative? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and short on cash. What would be my best option at this point? I'm not sure if I want to pay more than $1000 for this car. Blue book is only $2500.

Sounds like a shifter bushing is bad. Do you have problems with Park as well?

Manual to auto=possibly worse decision you can make on these cars.

If it's a manual it can be rebuilt.

My auto is out as well. I found a used one to swap out. Can I swap the transmission without pulling the motor?

Yes, but the motor should be supported.

Like Alex V said, it's the shifter bushing. I have the same problem. I just got the bushing from Nissan last week. Part number is 34552-D4000. It set me back $2.96 (two-dollars and ninety-six cents).
