Fuel Filter Replacement

Who has a better way to remove the fuel filer. I used the instructions in the stickies and the top hose still wouldn't come off. I tried starting the engine over and over to get rid of any pressure. If anybody has any ideas hook a brotha up.

I used a pair of pliers to twist off the top hose.

Use a flat blade screw driver wedged between the hose and and the fuel filter to pry the hose lose. Then use twisting motion to remove the hose. Don't just pull on the hose as that makes the hose grip harder.

i pulled out the garden snippers and cut the line just above each nipple on the fuel line, to me it wasnt worth more blood from my hands. everything reconnected fine as well. also put some grease of some sort around the fuel filter ends so when it comes time to do this again you wont have any issues getting it off

Little squirt of WD-40, try to work it in a little under the rubber, then use the flat-bladed screwdriver - much easier.

The hoses all but fuse to the filter. But if you use a penetrating oil (PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, Kroil, even WD-40) and twist on the hose it will break free and come apart more easily. If you don't have pliers or a screwdriver to help work on the hoses, just push/twist the hose on a little further to let the penetrating oil under the hose.

As for the fuel pressure, you'll always have some fuel spilling out, and even some residual pressure. I've heard that depressurizing and then letting the car sit all night can help remove the residual pressure, if you can wait that long. I keep a screw handy of the same size as the filter nipple and force it in there the moment I get it apart. That keeps the mess down to a small splash.

I've heard that a door panel removal tool works nicely. Makes sense, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.
