I installed a CAI today and I have a feeling the filter is going to fall out

Does anybody have the same feeling?

Like for example when I installed the stillen lip I thought it was going to fall off when I was driving on the highway....

Maybe its just me..

If it is tight and right, no worries.

why do u feel that the filter is goin to fall off?? as long as u tightened the clamp down tight enough there shud b no problem... i installed mine close to a year ago and i've never had any problems with it.... i also installed some rubber tubing (3/4" hose cut in half to fit along the metal) along the inside of the hole in the fender to keep the pipe snug and from banging around.... that might help as well.

I as well installed one today and have a couple of questions. this is a k2 motor one purchased off ebay.. sound is great

1) the red aarow pointing to the black circle the intake cuffs came larger and where the throttle body is the round hole that connects to your MAF is smaller then what they give you. all i did was tighten the thing up really tight and i hope that works? would there be any problems?

2) The green aarow is supposed to be pointing to the idle screw or i hope so.. the idle screw is a black screw that is near where i put that aarow, the only black screw coming up. Am i correct?

3) The blue circle is where i connected the filter and the MAF sensors plastic cracked when i was tightening the bolts but it is still held on.. is this a serious thing or will it be okay?

sorry for the crappy pictures and my lack of knowledge but thats all i have to say

haha true but i thought this was the place to post this question instead of making a new thread... but what did you do with all the rubber pipes that plug into the midpipe?

Ha ... I know this feeling, but only cause it has happend to me. My intake (dunno if it's a truely CAI, but it does suck cooler air due to placement) sits below my tranny and sortta off to the side. Anyway ... it sits down about 2" or so below the car (so I get cooler air) and when I park up against a parking curb ... gotta be careful no to knock it off. Done that two or three times. FTL!!!

Like mentioned, if you move it with your hand and it seems ok, it's not going to get that much jittering while you're driving, you should have it somewhat mounted.

My filter points down in the fender (cai) and is only held up by a clamp. I dont have the plastic fender cover, to allow air to easily access the fender... ive had it like this for like a year, fitler has never fell off. As long as the clamps and screws are tight, u have nothing to worry about.

who installed a filter without a hose clamp?.........

and I would advise putting the plastic inner-fender splashgaurd in there so your air filter isnt exposed to everything getting thrown off your tire....

My wheel well liner fell off like he was talking about and my filter is dirtier than sin, I've since replaced the liner and am replacing the filter tomorrow.

My filter has no hose clamp on it, I might add one, but its a tight fit and I have no real fears of it falling off. But does anyone know where I can get a gasket to fit inside the hole where the CAI tube goes into the fender?

I bought my PR CAI kit used so it didn't have it, and I just macgyvered a plastic tube lining with rtv sealant, but I would like one that would fit the 3" hole (or 2.5"? i forget)

what if you hit a couple bumps and the filter wiggles off? i would play it safe and add the clamp.

whitea32, are you running the stock midpipe or the aftermarket one?

I might put one back on, such a pain tightening it in that space though without removing the liner. its been going a good 3-4 months of driving without falling off, and a good month without the wheel well liner. even driving through some bumpy roads. but your right I probably should just play it safe

Yeah man just put the clamp haha. If you put the clamp on where the tightening screw is facing the right direction you can just take a few clips off the liner and stick your arm through there and get to it.

As far as the liner around the hole, I had some rubber strip that came with my pr cai but I had to cut it because there's a metal brace or frame square tube that comes flush up under the sheet metal on the edge of the hole I cut. It prevents me from putting that rubber protector all the way around the circle. Maybe I drilled my hole a little bit too far towards the rear. Scratches up my powdercoated tube mayn.

you don't neccesarily have to remove the liner. if you have a small hand, go through the side marker hole and screw it in while supporting the filter throught the fog light hole.

But then I'd have to remove the fog light and I wouldn't have any visibility to aim and tighten. I'll just yank the liner, no biggie.

but I still need to work out a solution for the gasket in the fender, my powder coat is all f'd too

oh, sucks for you, i have a gxe... actualy wished i had an se.

who cares if it f's up your coat. it'll f it up where no one will be able to see it.
i don't have one, well mines chrome anyways so it wouldn't matter, but it does make that clunking noise whenever i go over a bump so i made squeeze something in there.

Yeah I don't have the problem anymore but my fix is only temporary. Even if no one sees it, i still know its there, I mod my car for myself, not others

I switched all my clamps to Torque Series clamps made for semi truck radiators. I had my intake fall off to many times already past the maf Hasn't fallen off since.

For the hole I used the thing that you use to cover the power wire for an amp like the black hose with a slit in it or something.

I am using the stock midpipe.
And I am using the clamp that came with it to hold the filter up

WhiteA32, did you have to modify the hole after using the template or was it a perfect fit, reason i'm asking is... considering we're using a fleabay intake I'm not exactly sure it's an exact replica of the PR intake and I don't want to drill a mess of holes in my engine bay, my bay looks good now and I wanna keep it that way...thanks

Also, was it looming that u used? Vibration being an issue, I was thinking of using a rubber grommet if I can find one that's 3 inches.

Well really you don't even need that template. I mounted the intake and looked where I should cut the hole. And then I cut the hole there.

He's right and I actually believe that the template your given i a bit too far forward, causes the coupling on the throttle body to not it flush all the way around

That template was worthless. It placed the hole about 3" too far toward the front. If you're using the stock midpipe (like you should), it has some wiggle room, so just eyeball the hole.

Why should we be using the stock midpipe? I'm using the one that came with it atm.

I wondered about my filter being secure too, until this year when I removed it to clean and oil it. It was on there pretty good, I guess the heat makes the rubber on the cone seal up to the pipe, I actually wrestled with it a bit to get it off.
